Barron, was crowned Miss Quincy of 1959 in the Junior Chamber of Commerce’s 11th annual pageant Saturday night, May 16, in Quincy Junior High School Auditorium. She won out in a field of 12 girls who matched beauty, talent, poise, and personality in a colorful and entertaining show which won the enthusiastic applause of a near capacity audience. Her talent selection was a vc :al arrangement of the ‘Italian Street Song.” Miss Barron, who hopes to further her studies in music at Knox College, is 5 2V2”. She has brown hair and eyes and fair complexion. Her measurements are 32-22-33. She weighs 102 pounds. She wore a floor-length formal gown of pale blue esperit over taffeta. The bottom of the gown was trimmed with pale pink roses. Her striped wool knit swim suit was a number of shades of blue. For her talent number, she wt re a full skirted dress of turquoise trimmed in red. As Miss Quincy, Miss Barron will be the city’s contestant in the state beauty- talent pageant May 29-30 in Moline. The winner there will represent that state in the Miss America contest at Atlantic City. The Central Panthers, sparked by six seniors, finished the 1958-59 season with their most impressive record in three years. The high flying Panthers wron 20 games, losing only 7. In Wenois Conference play, the Panthers were undefeated with a 5-0 record. The Panthers compiled a 7-5 record in the Midwest Conference. Among the Panther victories were a 78-45 win over Ashland, a 90-55 decision over Worder in the Routte Tourney; a 88-63 win over Barry, and a 65-56 win over Payson to take the Wenois Tourney; they fought hard but lost to Quincy 73-58 in the Regional Tournament.
