Central’s team was hampered by injuries in their losing of Bobby Baird, a valuable rebounder, for ten games during the heart of the season. Roger Reuschel missed six games while out with the mumps. Terry Koontz did not see action for two games when he had the flu. Central’s Panthers participated in three tournaments this season. During Christmas vacation they traveled to Jacksonville for the Routte High Tournament in which they lost to New Berlin 51-58. In the Wenois Tournament the Panthers lost to Liberty 49-51 and defeated Payson 60-46 to take fifth place. At Griggsville, in the Regional, Central repeated their 1957 performance by defeating Merdosia 71-55, but they were defeated by the Hornets of Mt. Sterling 62-57 in an overtime. Although they were disappointed their record this year they are planning to give the fans a few thrills again next year as they have in the past.
