They were: Donald Brady, Marie Buskirk, Patsy Kestner, Donald Clark, Bobby Vonholt, Wayne Ennen, Julis Moellring, Barbara Higley, JoAnne Stevens, Wilma Weisheit, Betty Sparks, Monita Sally, Marjorie Wear, Harry Kindhart, Janice Hanke, Shirley Shank and Donetta Smith. The following officers were elected: President, Janice Hanke; Vice-President, Donald Brady; Secretary, JoAnne Stevens; and Treasurer, Marie Buskirk. We had a weiner roast during the year. Our sponsors were Lyle Lewis and Richard Rabbitt. In 1952, we returned as silly Sophomores. We were sorry to say that four of our class did not return. They were: Janice Hanke, who moved west of Camp Point and entered Camp Point High School, Betty Sparks, Donnetta Smith, and Harry Kindhart. The following officers were elected: President, Donald Brady; Vice-President, Wayne Ennen; Secretary, Patsy Kestner; and Treasurer, Bobby Vonholt. We enjoyed a hayrack party during the year. Our sponsors were Mrs. Stevens and Mrs. Evans. In 1953 we came back to school as jolly Juniors. We lost three students. They were: Shirley Shank, Marjorie Wear, and Monita Sally, but gained Yvonne Mixer from Liberty. The following officers were elected: President, Julia Moellring; Vice-President, Wayne Ennen; Secretary, Wilma Weisheit; and Treasurer, Donald Brady. During the year we enjoyed a hayrack party and a skating party. Most of all we enjoyed the class play entitled, “Hillbilly Weddin , directed by Mrs. Betty Jefferson, and the Prom which we gave at “The Virginia in Scripp Park, Rushville, Illinios with the Seniors, faculty, and .board members as our guests. After a long wait, we were happy to receive our class rings toward the end of the year. In the fall of 1954, we entered Clayton High School as dignified Seniors. The following officers were elected: President, Donald Brady; Vice-President, Bobby Vonholt; Secretary, Julia Moellring, and Treasurer, Yvonne Mixer. We enjoyed a weiner roast at the Clayton Lake. Our sponsors were Mr. Clapper and Mr. Van Ormer. We enjoyed ordering our announcements and pictures. The prom and the annual were great events. We are now awaiting our Senior trip, but most of all we are looking forward to Graduation Day. Golden Division In the fall of 1950, twenty-eight green hearted Freshmen entered the inspiring halls of Golden High. The class consisted of Lowell Buss, President; Joan Busboom, Vice-President; Gerald Buss, Secretary-Treasurer; Verna Behrens, Hazel Mixer, Delois Albert, Eunice Patton, Elaine Bluhm, Betty Bruns, Maralee Franzen, Mary Jo Ihnen, Carol Leenerts, Linda Behrens, Ann Boyles, Esther Schueter, Virgil Leenerts, Ronald Janssen, Carol Schuster, Raymond Albers, Roger Aden, Virgil Haschemeyer, LeRoy Gerdes, Wendell Akers, Don Wallace, Larry Galloway, Wayne Akers, and Mrs. Roger Hyer, advisor. Shortly after school began, Ronald Parrick moved and Marvin Juilfs quit. After Christmas, Mary Salisbury and Jim Wortman joined our class. In the fall of 51 we returned as silly Sophomores. During the year Wayne Akers moved and Virgil Haschemeyer quit. We elected class officers as follows: Don Wallace, President; Virgil Leenerts, Vice-President; Carol Schuster, Secretary; and Esther Schlueter, Treasurer; with Miss Elliott as our advisor. We had a Sophomore party and sold consessions at basketball games. 18 One year later in the fall of 52 we returned as jolly Juniors. We found that Wendell Akers had moved and Linda Beherns got married. Junior class officers were Carol Schuster, President; Eunice Patton, Vice-President; Lowell Buss, Secretary-Treasurer; and Mrs. Hill, advisor. We had lots of fun giving the class play, “Quit Your Kidding, a three act comedy, which was a great success. We selected our class rings and held the Junior-Senior prom and banquet at the Country Club, Rushville, Illinois. We returned as Seniors in the fall of 53, Delois Albert got married, but we had gained Alice Hufendick. The officers elected were Roger Aden, President; Esther Schlueter, Vice-President; Alice Hufendick, Secretary-Treasurer; and Mr. McKinley is the advisor. Carnations were picked as the class flower, and the class motto is “With The Ropes Of The Past, We Will Ring The Bells Of The Future , and the class colors are white with black. We are looking forward to the day of graduation, but we will always remember our four years at G. H. S. Camp Point Division A class of twenty-three members enrolled at Camp Point in 1950 as “Green Freshmen. ’ The members were: Shirley Aden, Bernice Barry, Dale Bent, Wilbur Booth, Jay Bower, Joan Brinkman, Margie Carpenter, Dick Dieterle, Max Durfee, Norma Embree, Jackie Ferguson, Marilyn Guenther, Darlene Gunn, Ronnie Heubner, Carson Hibbert, Lois Hogan, Marcia Lefferinghouse, Marjorie Martin, Jim Myers, Darrell Schlueter, Vern Sheets, Ronald Vollbracht, and John Wardlow. Mr. Shanks was our class sponsor. Initiation day was a big event for us. We looked miserable in our many costumes but it was the big day of the year. We also sponsored a weiner roast our Freshman year. In 1951 we returned as silly Sophomores with three new members. They were Janice Hanke, Ariel Rogers, and Jean Blentlinger who joined us the second semester. Mrs. Blentlinger was our class sponsor. As jolly Juniors we returned in 1952 with twenty-two members. Jackie Ferguson, Marcia Leffer inghouse, Ariel Rogers, and John Wardlow didn’t return. Mrs. Wickliffe and Mr. Cuba were our class sponsors. The two big highlights of the year were our class play, “Powerful Medicine ’ and the Junior-Senior prom and banquet. The banquet was held in Rushville with music furnished by the Jimmie Delebar Orchestra. We initiated the Freshmen and were hosts to an all-school Christmas party this year. We returned as Seniors in 1953 with only twenty members. Ronald Heubner and vern Sheets did not return. Mrs. Brinkman was our sponsor for the school paper and the annual. Mr. Pacatte and Miss Damrow were our class sponsors. The class flower chosen was the white carnation, the colors were black and white, and our motto was “With The Ropes Of The Past We Will Ring The Bells Of The Future. The graduation pictures, ordering of announcements, Junior-Senior prom and banquet, Senior trip, and the annual were important events to the Seniors. We are all looking forward to graduation, but sincerely regret leaving high school and all of the good times we have had. Senior Class Poem This poem, dedicated to the class of 1954 Wishes each one success and good luck galore! Many memories will linger forever, Of the good times we've spent together. Verna Behrens, a short little gal, Mary Ihnen is her best pal. Jim Wortman with his black Chevrolet Takes Raymond Albers quite away. Maralee Franzen, not so old Is Betty Bruns’ aunt, so we’re told. Roger Aden is a mathimatical whiz Larry Galloway wishes he could get his. Carol and Virgil, mistaken for twins, Because their name with Leenerts ends. Joan Busboom, right on the beam, With Esther Schlueter likes to dream. Don Wallace and Gerald Buss With Ronald Janssen never fuss. Eunice Patton, who can hit high C, With Alice Hufendick you’ll often see. Carol Schuster, the algebra brain, Works out the problems with Lowell and Elaine. If you don’t believe they can tootle, just ask. Wilbur Booth claims he is a busy boy, When the paper comes out, he and Max Durfee jump for joy. Carson Hibbert is a lively young lad, Darrell Schlueter and Dick Dieterle-just as bad. 20 Bernice Barry and Marjorie Martin are in the Senior class, For what better class members could anyone ask? Lois Hogan is quite a bookkeeping “whiz , Ronnie Vollbracht wonders what her slogan is. Darlne Gunn is our honor roll student, Margie Carpenter says, “How does she do it? Patsy Kestner and Yvonne Mixer often are seen together; On their feet, they are both as light as a feather. Julia Moellring, is a cute little lass; Wayne Ennen would do anything she would ask. Marie Buskirk didn’t go to the Senior party; Donald Clark the next morning didn’t look very hardy. Barbara Higley and JoAnne Stevens make quite a pair; For many a thing, they don't give a care. Donald Brady and Bob Vonholt live in the same neighborhood; When they're together, they’re up to no good. Wilma Weisheit, the last on roll call, Knows some boys in this town she would sure like to maul. Class resident (Uolden) 23 Class Prophecy Just think! 1974, and here I am watching Central play Unity in the new Central Stadium. A far cry from the time when Central High was still in three buildings at Golden, Clayton,a nd Camp Point. And look! there are the Seniors of 54 who graduated from those three schools. I wonder if they’re having a class reunion, I heard a rumor that this was their homecoming. Do you know what each one is doing now. If you do, I wish you’d tell me. Well--let me begin with Shirley Aden is now secretary for the new Central High School that has just been completed. We hear Roger Aden has just returned from Reno after divorcing his seventh wife. Doing good for a beginner, isn’t he ? ? ? ? ? ? Bernice Barry is head secretary and typist for Bower Inc. And Dale Bent has taken over the position as minister in the Christian Church since Rev. Fiscus retired. In high school days, remember Gerald Buss as Arthur Godfrey. We understand he has taken over Arthur Godfrey and all of his little Godfreys. We have been informed that Emily Post has retired and Elaine Bluhm has taken over. She has passed a rule “Wash Hands Before Meal Time.“ Donald Brady is now drawing cartoons for the CLAYTON SURPRISE. Gee! There’s Leroy Gerdes a famous stock car driver. And I understand he’s never had a flat yeL I think Lowell Buss is going to give a small sketch from his Broadway show--Kiss Me, Kate. You remember Lowell as Central High’s famous woman lover. Joan Brinkman, now Mrs. Curtis Hibbert, is busy raising her five sons. And Jean Blentlinger is copywriter for the Chicago Tribune. Wilbur Booth is going to college, majoring in English; other students wonder how he makes his good grades without studying. In between halves we were entertained by a world famous toe dancer--Betty Bruns. Betty also has her own school and gives weekly lessons over K. H. Q. A. - T. V. Sitting next to me is Joan Busboom, the model of Queen Elizabeth Clothes. She came all the way from London, just for this great event. Marie Buskirk helps her husband run a saw mill near Five Points. And Jay Bower is now a chief surgeon in the Mayo Clinic. Ann Boyles, who was always very fond of limburger cheese, is now presenting a program with the Lucions Limburger Cheese Co. as her sponsor. (This is the strongest program of the year.) Marge Carpenter is now Supervisor of Nurses in St. Mary’s Hospital. Donald Clark is Ace number one car salesman for CHRYSLER-PLYMOUTH SALES AND SERVICE OF CLAYTON. My! this is a small world. Little Abner (Raymond Albers) just flew in from Dog Patch. Wonder how he made out in the Sadie Hawkins Day Race ? Verna Behrens, who once worked for a Taxi Service, has just started a business of her own. Dick Dieterle married Martha Ruth Shank and they are running a large service station in Clayton. And Max Durfee is head engineer at the DuPont factory. Wayne Ennen is now teaching basketball to the girls P-E class of CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL. Did you know Barbara Higley is now the wife of the winner of the Indianapolis 500 ? Marjorie Martin is a nurse in Michael Reece Hospital in Chicago. Jim Myers now owns and operates a 500 acre farm near Camp Point. 24 Alice Hufendick, who was a great typist in high school, has just been offered the position as personal typist for the President of the United States. And Maralee Frazen has in her possession the “Betty Gay store for whose dresses she designs herself. Larry Galloway is now the famous strickly “One-man Ha Ch Chacha Cha band that broadcasts occasionally from Fern Hill. Darlene Gunn has just resigned her position as head secretary at Moorman’s and married Harry Duvall. Marilyn Guenther, now Mrs. Jim Clevenger is living on a 1000 acre ranch in Montana raising Angus cattle. And Janice Hanke, now Mrs. Denton Nall, is head nurse in the U. N. Hospital in Soeul, Korea. Carson Hibbert is chief accountant in a Wall Street Bank in New York. Lois Hogan married the president of the telephone company and is now busy raising little telephone operators. Patsy Kestner still writes “Dear John Letters.” We hear Ronald Janssen and his new car aren’t in the garage as much as he and his Plymouth were. How many times was it, Ronnie ? ? ? ? I hear from Ronnie, that Mary Ihnen was in London last month, buying all new wardrobes for several movie stars. She handles money in a big way. Yvonne Mixer is bookkeeper for the new CHRYSLER-PLYMOUTH SALES AND SERVICES GARAGE. Julia Moellring is the Supervisor of the Old Maid Nursing Home of Pea Ridge. I happen to glance over and see that entire Section B was reserved for Hazel Mixer and her cheaper by the dozen family. You remember Hazel always did do things in a big way. Norma McCallister and her husband have just signed a contract with M. G. M. as a skating team. Virgil Leenerts has just returned from giving a Piano Recital in Carnegie Hall. He is not only famous for playing the piano by hand but also by ear. Carol Leenerts has just won an auctioneer contest for L. S. M. F. T. She has cried 19,989 sales and never once lost her voice. And Eunice Patton is now famous for her gum, “Droppa Pound” which she accidently discovered by chewing “Chum Gum” and “Bazooka.” There’s Mary Salisbury. I see she found time to get away from her large estate in the East. Mary is well known for her breed of pink poodles. Esther Schlueter has just written a famous book, “This I’ve Heard.” Her fame and experience has been reflected from her high school days. Darrell Schlueter is still a bachelor and is using automatic buttons to do his cleaning etc. Remember Carol Schuster as the editor of “The Panther.” She is now celebrating her twentieth anniversary as editor of the Chatton Gazette. JoAnne Stevens is now dealing in wrecked cars. Bobby Vonholt has taken over the Rounds Funeral Chapel in Mt. Sterling. Wilma Weisheit lives on a farm near Meyer, Illinois, and raises Holstein cows. Ronnie Vollbracht is a rich bachelor who farms in the summer and goes to Florida for the winter. James w ortman is now a freak speed demon, who, as you remember, raced down the Main Streets of Golden. You remember Don Wallace and his famous gorilla act. It seems he is so famous he is working on Broadway with Frankenstein, Inc. You know this afternoon has just flown by for me. The game was exciting and all the news about the 54 Seniors was just terrific. Well, I’d better be going home. P. S. Central won 21 to 0. F. F. A. DAIRY Quincy, Illinois LEFT TO RIGHT: BASKETBALL 1953-1954 Twenty-five boys reported for basketball practive at the beginning of the season. Several of these boys dropped out during the season until only seventeen were playing at the end of the season. Seven of these boys were Freshmen. On the varsity squad only two Seniors were available who had had the experience necessary for this level of competition. The rest of the varsity team had to be made up of Sophomores and Freshmen, with one Junior who had had very limited experience. At the beginning of the year it appeared we might have a strong team but the limited experience of our boys and the lack of personnel proved a handicap. At this writing, our record is won 5, lost 10, with five more games to play. In tournament play we won 2, lost 2. Our team was awarded the sportsmanship trophy at the Winchester Tournament. The schedule this year included two new opponents for Central, viz. Carthage and Rushville. For the first time, we attempted a short Freshman schedule, playing on Saturday mornings and after school. To date our Freshman team has won 3, lost 1, with two more games to play. Oberling, E. Ennen, Brady, R. Aden, D. Likes, Gronewold. R. Likes, W . Ennen, Coach Va n Ormer.
