Since our school sits in the midst of cornfields, it was appropriate that someone suggest Cornstalks and Courage . This theme generated some controversy, but most of the student body finally accepted the fact and are quite proud and honored by the theme. College Night 1972 College Night gives parents and students op- portunity to get firsthand information from many colleges that are represented—informa- tion on admission, test requirements, finan- cial aid, as well as items on social life, the campus, etc. March-A-Thon Many Central students participated in the first annual March of Dimes March-a- thon, October, 1971, The purpose of the march was to raise money by walking to help those who are not able to walk. Challenge Talent Night First place went to the seniors presenting Shakespear's A Mid- summer Night's Dream . The cast in- volved twenty-one members of the Senior Class. Directing the play were Cissy Eggar and Phyllis Bush. RAFT RACES are held each spring down the rugged pathway of Plateau Creek, just a few miles driving time from Grand Junction, providing there is sufficient runoff from the snowpack in the high country. For the first time, this year at least three rafts of girls finished the race. The Ski Club sponsored the event, and each raft had to be homemade and contain no more than four people. The Bomb won a somewhat disputed victory over the early leader in the race. Rapids - Tight Race Who's Following Ooh, that cold water! Award-winning Cast . . . ANTIGONE Sophocles' famous Greek tragedy 'Antigone' was pre- sented at Central on February 29. Its main purpose was for competition in a play festival at Mesa College in March. It was originally a three-act, full-length play, but it had to be condensed to 45 minutes. Cast in the title role was Robin Duff, with Bruce Anderson as King Creon. Mark Madsen played the genial chorus, Bryan Aumiller as Haemon, and Denise Cyr as Antigones' sister, Ismene. Student teacher, Judy Smith, was directing. GOVERNMENT ISSUE Drumming Along! Clap Your Hands and Sing! And never was the gymnasium at Central High School the same after the Government Issue , a touring group of modern jazz and rock group of GIs from Ft. Carson, Colo., came to town during the second semester. The group had been on a western tour, and the stop at Central was the last before returning to their home base near Colorado Springs. They played and sang pretty for the people, and there wasn't a quiet moment for one class period. One thing about them — they didn't play or sing chamber music. And, the GIs Song! A Solid Trio An Open Eye!
