Other activities included the following: Reformation Service at First Baptist Church, Christ Evangelical Church service, the Freedom Shrine program at Central High School, and the mid-year Baccalaureate Service. The second semester included the following performances: the annual tour to Crystal City and the grade school tour. The main activity was preparation for the Choral Festival held at State College auditorium with 2500 students under the direction of Robert McCowan from Iowa, guest conductor. Central High Choir members were in charge of seating arrangements for the Festival and programs. The Tigers tied three games in succession, won one, and were on the losing end of five. September 10-With Fredericktown as the opponents, the Tigers opened the first game with a tie, 13-13. They didn't score until the second half. Then Poorman and Schack crossed the goal for touchdowns. September 17-Next followed the game with Normandy High and another 13-13 tie with Poorman again at his best with a 76 yard touchdown. September 24-The Cairo, Illinois, game proved an exciting tug-of-war struggle, and the Tigers again tied the third game of the season 7-7. October 8-After three successive ties, our team lost the next game to Caruthersville 28-6, at Houck Field Stadium. October 14-Old rivals clashed when Central metjackson in a heartbreaking defeat of 13-0 at jackson. October 29-Tigers battled the Sikeston Bulldogs in the next game, ending in a 13-7 loss. November4-Playing on a muddy field, the Tigers won their first victory of the season over the Kennett Indians, 33-O. November 12-The lucky streak ended at the Central-Charleston game with Central losing 19-7. November 25-Closing the season was the Turkey Day game with Poplar Bluff. During the year they sponsored a snake dance and bonfire before the Thanksgiving game, a sock hop after the Sikeston game, the selling of pom-poms to students and have held pep rallies before many football and basketball games. A new addition to their colorful uniforms was the huge black and orange pom-poms for the cheerleaders and smallerones for the Tigerettes.
