Then the mists cleared and the picture became a reality, for the architects had captured it in blue print for all to see. Eileen's design was chosen from sketches submitted by the five girls who are members of the Girardot Art Staff. A 3925 check was the award offered by William B. Ittner Inc., the architectural firm for the new building, and was presented to Eileen in as- sembly by Dr. A. C. Magill, President of the Board of Education. ...6.. Central's first defeat came on Hallowe'en with the Sikeston Bulldogs, but in the Hnal home game they socked the Kennett Indians I3-O. Downing Illmo-Fornfelt in the opening game, the team dropped the second to Mc- Kinley High of St. Louis. Then followed a successive string of zz victories until the de- feat in the quarterfinals at the state tournament. Included in the string of wins was the record breaking 103 to 62 triumph over the Jackson Indians. The Tigers also captured the championships of the Big Four Tournament in Cape, the Poplar Bluff Invitational, and the A Regional held in Flat River. Dave Howard was selected one of the five best high school basketball players in Mis- souri and was named as the guard on the Missouri All-Star team. In the district All-Star Team five Central players were named in the first ten classification. They were Dave How- ard, C. XV. Suedekum, Paul Stehr, Don Koch, and Wfalter Ford. Damon Dale was named on the second ten and Jim Miller was in the honorable mention group. A total of 1780 points was rolled up by the team in the season, Dave Howard leading with 458 points in individual scoring. C. XV. Suedekum came next with 342 points, and Koch placed third with 315. Mr. Owen spoke on the history of the Mynah bird and explained how it was trained. He and Mrs. Owen brought four Mynahs and two parrots out to perform. The birds counted, whistled, laughed, and answered questions and commands in voices that sounded com- pletely human. The audience roared when one of the parrots responded un- pectedly with, You big fat slob. Jan. 14-velixams started today. Ev- eryone was looking either resigned or determined.
