Untied, undefeated, not scored upon is the record of the nineteen-hundred- forty-two football team. This outstanding accomplishment cannot be men- tioned without giving full credit to the splendid cooperation of the separate members on the squad and to the quality of leadership displayed by the coach of the team, Mr. Muegge. The football teams of Central High School are al- ways outstanding, but the nineteen-hundred-forty-two team shares this excellent record with only one other teamg namely, the nineteen-hundred-twenty-nine team. . ' The season opened on home territory with the initial game being played against Chaffee. Under the strain of their first competition, the team showed a handi- cap which was apparent through most of the play. However the Tigers emerged victorious by a score of 1340. Having tasted victory, the Bengals again were successful and defeated the McBride Colonaders of St. Louis 30-0. The first out-of-town game was played at Carbondale, and Central extended their string of victories to three by shutting out the Illinois team 40-0. Cairo was next on the schedule, and they, too, were defeated, being handed a loss of 46-0. ..f-1.1-n.f-1.i'1 P-v.f--.1--.f'lv.fN

He handled the ball with a great deal of dexterity and starred on defensive playing. - UPTON - Although Herbert wasn't always seen by the crowd, he was a fast player and really covered the court. He should go far next year with the ex- perience he has gained this season. HOPE - Harold finished up his basketball activities at Central this year by presenting a fine show of his ability. He was all over the hardwood and was a most dependable player. I-IAGER - Weldon was one of the main players of this year's team, having two seasons of experience behind him. He will be greatly missed next year. ' BRINKOPF -- Leon was one of the most used substitutes of the squad. He has shown plenty of promise and will be one of the important cogs in the team next year.
