However. all the games that Central lost were hy one touehdown or less and this reeord doesnit show the aetual ability of the Fighting Blue. Central opened the first game of the season at Marion on their field. Marion squeezed hy them in a Close one, 26-19. Their next game. however. was a different story and Central won 25-6 over New Castle. Following this game with Central Catholic was a close one with Central scoring in the last minute ol' the game for a l8-12 victory. The Tigers whipped South Side -19-13. North Side heal us hy 2 points in a heartln'eaker whieh lost us the City Crown. ln the next encounter, our last home game, we heat fluntington 20-l3. ln our last three games away we played Elk- hart to a lfl-l-1 stalemate, Richmond downed us 20-13. and then Muncie Central heat us in our final game on the extra point, 7-6. Central had a good all-round team with plenty of weight and a fast haekfield. Central placed Meeks at end, Maharrey at half. Cowan at fullback, Romanowski at quarterback. and Hogan at guard on the All-City Football team. These are the thoughts of many fans when they come out to see some great plays made at a reserve football game. The reserve football team of '55, kept up the hopes of Snitz Snider. varsity football coach, of having a good fast and rough team for the next two or three years. The reserve team is made up of fresh- men and sophomore boys. getting the experience necessary for making the Mighty Tiger team. The reserves play all the city schools and two out-of-town teams. Some of the outstanding players on this year's reserve team were Norm Beer. Mike Altekruse. Ed Emenhiser. Melvin Patrick. and Ed Russell. outstanding in the back- field. Bill Baldwin. Roger Ember, ,lim Cold- smith were the stand-outs on the line. Coached by Bob Armstrong and Murray Mendenhall. the team compiled a fine record of 3 wins and 11- losses. coming back as a threat at the end of the season. Central beat South Side. Concordia. and Huntington. North Side and Central Catholic each handed them two defeats during the season. although they won by only one touchdown each game.
