p to Bat Coach Norm Lacey was optimistic about the 1987 baseball season. Although they lost five starters and a tremendous amount of speed, more quality people and new players returned. The seniors this year provided important leadership. Jay Deas and Mike Ferry were the pitchers. Stewart Atkins, Jeff Carter, Anthony Harris, Brian Trimbett, and Tim Stewart were other seniors on the team. The Central Baseball Team practiced two hours every day to make them a contender for regionals. Last year their record was 23-4 which placed them first in the state and sixteenth in the country. Because they were first in the state, they were asked to participate in international com- petition. They were invited to compete in Holland, Italy, China, and Australia. Being the least expensive, they chose Australia. Last year's graduates and this year's team will go to Australia this summer from August 1 to August 15. This is the first Central team to compete in International Competition, which shows the great talent of this team. 72 Varsity 5 wwfl .

, - f-2--K 2- 2- -- 74 Varsity Softball Batter U Coach Wardell Davis headed the softball this year. Beginning practice in February, the girls prepared sixth period and after school throughout the season except for game days. Leading the team on First Base was Carol Hedgemon, the Lady Falcons' only senior. The team had many new, young players, making the season more difficult to accomplish. Competing against 16 teams in regular season play, the toughest opponents were Berry High, County High, and Carbon Hill High Schools. Accomplishing their goals this year, they ended with a winning season.
