J MPING TO VICTORY The Central Falcons moved the ball very successfully this year. Thriving on close scoring games, this year's team was known as the cardiac kids. Early in the season, the team defeated several highly ranked teams, winning the Blue and Gray tournament by a total of only four points. ln the first round CHS defeated Carver in overtime by a score of 56-54. Slipping by Sidney Lanier by just one point, they won the second game 58-57. Finally, winning the tournament for the fifth time out of the past six years, they defeated the outstanding team, Jeff Davis, in the last round by one point 55-54. Playing so many close ball games has really given the team pride and character. With the record we've achieved, the players have become very confident in themselvesfl said Roosevelt Sanders, the team's head coach. Coach Sanders felt the six seniors: Carlos Scarborough, Steve Wyatt, Darryl Williams, Andrew Robinson, Jimmy McShane, John McDuffie contributed much to the team, but he said the team had no stars. 'They are fifteen good players that work together very unselfishly to win ballgames. There are no stars, any one player might shine in any one ballgamef' Fulfilling most of the team's goals, the players filled most of their individual goals as well. According to Coach Sanders, they were a group of outstanding men, better people than they were players. Keeping priorities in order seemed very impor- tant to them, putting religion, family, and school before basketball, but as shown by the outcome of the season they were able to devote themselves to basketball as well. 68 Varsity Basketball
