Football Exce s '11 Leading the Central High Team this year offensively were Ant Harris, Darryl Williams, Stewart Atkins, Brad Darden, and Bryan Thrasher. This year's team was very successful. With a record of hard hitting, high scoring games, the Central Falcons finished with a record of 10 wins and only one loss in regular season play. This was an outstanding achievement According to head football coach Ed Reed This year's team started off with less talent than ever before but had more determination and dedication than any team I've ever coached here at Central, and that says a lot. The coach also said he felt this team deserved to go to the state playoffs, although the Falcons did get to the substate playoffs. They lost against Jess Lanier. In regular season play, the only loss was to Robert E. Lee. Ironically, these were the teams that landed in the playoffs competing for the state championship. On the Central defense seniors Frankie Pate, Condre Payne, An- thony Palmer and Lee Watkins led the Falcons. Also playing a major part in defense were Carlos Scarborough, Pat Hinton, Derrick Thomas, and Kevin Jones. 64 Varsity Football

66 Volleyball Volleyball Won Fourth Although the volleyball team does not receive much recognition during the season, they have certainly proved to be a very talented team! This year, under the direction of Coach Clarence Sutton, the team finished with twenty-one wins and only one loss in regular season play. They attended the state tournament in Mobile at the end of October and made it to the semifinals placing fourth in the state! According to coach Sutton, the Vestavia Hills game in the substate playoffs was the highlight of the season. The Lady falcons, down zero to two at one point, came back to win three games to two. As a whole, the four seniors, Antionette Wells, Antionitta Wells, Michelle Smith and Tammy Belcher, contributed much to the outcome of the season. A newcomer to Central, Belcher, the team's setter, was greatly responsible for the seasc success. Providing leadership and support, the We twins created strong reinforcement for the tez Also, they were largely responsible for getting team started in 1985. Improving much over season Michelle Smith was named to the All-St Tournament team after the playoffs in Mobile.
