Lit., Scholar Bowl 24 Faculty MATH TEACHER AWARDED NATIONAL HONOR Early this year, Ms. Howell was recognized for her 40 years of outstanding teaching with the presentation of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics. Since this award is only given to two mathematics teachers in each state, Ms. Howell feels a great honor to be chosen and is thrilled, Ms. Howell feels that her length of service to education, along with the success of the math team in recent years, of which she is the sponsor, helped her to earn this award. Besides the recognition, the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics also brought a S5000 grant to Central High School and a great amount of favorable publicity. While she was in Washington D.C. to accept her award, Ms. Howell met math teachers from all over the country. There she enjoyed her interactions with them, learning their techniques of teaching while showing them hers.
