Plus, the Honor Society participated in the tapping ceremo,ny,i,in the Finally, also in honor societies. The French Honor Society was sponsored by Ms. Ellen Riley. This society is strictly an honorary group. They calied several yreeetings to ceremonies and incluctions. The officers of the 1987 school year for the French Honor Society inf eluded Karla Martin, Presidentg Julie Lancaster, ViceNPresidentg Laura Peck, Secretary Treasurerg and LauraiPeck, sweetheart. .5 The Latin Honor Society was sponsored by Ms. Elisabeth McNair. President of this year's Latin Honor Society was Suzanne Globetti. Other officers included William Albritton, Vice-Presidentg Heather Petty, Secretaryg Ellen'MacDonald,'Treasurerg and Libby Johnson, sweetheart. This Honor Society met on the 3rd Tuesday of each month, 7:30 a.m. in Rm. 212, the Latin Room. The project was to increase the amount of materials needed for theihdvanced Placef ment program in Latinffhe Society also worked with the Salvation Army, the Toys for Tots program and Adopt a Grandparentv program.

The Latin Club met on the second and fourth Monday of each month in the East Campus library at 6:30 p.m. Ms. Elizabeth McNair was sponsor. Officers were Lee Webb, 1st Consul, Disa Hicks, 2nd Consul, Helen Ellis, Aedileg Natalie Taylor, Scribag Ellen MacDonald, Quaestarg Jean Kirby, Censerg Alice Bashinsky, Pintifex Maximus, William Albritton, Praetorg and Lucanda Hannah, Feti alis. The Latin Club, cooperated in all school activities this year. They purchased books for the library and added other books and materials for the Latin program. In addition, the club par- ticipated in the bell-ringing for the Salva- tion Army, Toys for Tots project. Plus, each Latin class adopted a grandparent from a local nursing home, and kept in touch with them during the entire year. The club also had its usual parties: the Saturnalia at Christmas, the Feast of Fools for Rome's bir- thday in April, and the Bread and Circuses competition. The Spanish Club was also sponsored by Mrs. Martha B. Lackey. The club of the language tongue, Spanish, met on the third Thursday of each month of 7:30 a.m. in Rm. 219 fMrs. Lackey's Rooml. Officers this year were Shay Elliot, President, Elizabeth Ponder, Vice-President, Molly Campbell, Secretary, and Brent Jessee, Sefior, Erika Wells, Senorita. The Spanish Club par- ticipated in a variety of activities this year. The members of the Spanish Club were in- volved in the numerous homecoming ac- tivities in October. In December, they had a Christmas Fiesta at Forest Lake United Methodist. Plus, several students of the Spanish classes paid for the National Spanish Exams in the State Competition. Finally, the members attended the State Federation of Spanish Clubs Convention -at the University of Ala. on March 27 and 28. Organizations 1 1 7

This year the officers who presided were Ellen Mac- Donald, Presidentg Chris Williamson, Vice- Presidentg and Jeanine Williamson, Secretary- Treasurer. Mu Alpha Theta was sponsored by Ms. Ann Lilly and Ms. Linda Hodo and met on the third Thursday of the month. Mu Alpha Theta is a mathematics honor society. Member- ship is by invitation based on an overall grade point average in college prep classes. Members are recognized with special ribbons and badges at graduation as well as emblems on their diplomas, The major service project done by the organization is tutoring, Tuesday mornings at 7:3Qytiil 8:00 arm?
