The RIFLE TEAM was sponsored by Sergeant Ma- jor Stewart. Captain Cadet James White was head of ' ' 3 d week the team. This Rotc Rifle Team met ays a after school at the Rotc marksmanship range. In addi- tion, they participated in the Birmingham Marksman- d ship Postal matches throughout September an December. In April, they participated in the shoulder to shoulder match in Auburn, Alabama. The ROTC STAFF BATTALION was led by Sergeant Stewart this year. At 7:40 am each Tuesday in the Central High School U.S. Army JROTC Conference Room. The Battalion mar- ched in the Alabama Homecoming Parade and Veteran's Day Parade. It also participated in the Veteran's Day Festivities at West Campus iddle School. In December, they marched in the Christmas parade. In addi- the Battalion competed in the Drill Team and Eastwood M tion, Competition at Auburn University. The SCHOLAR BOWL, headed by Carolyn Davis and Laura Hunter, met each Wednesday ' red 9th in at 3:30 p.m. in Rm. 126. They sco the state in the National Knowledge Masters Open on Dec. 3, 1986, which put them in the top 1796 in the nation. They also participated in the Central Invitational Tournament on April 11, 1987 and in various other competitions throughout the state during this year. Organizations 1 13

The Analysis Team was sponsored by Mrs. Martha B. Howell. Every Tuesday afternoon at approximately 3:30 the members of the team would meet for one hour until 4:30. The members of the team participated in ten to twelve tour- naments this school year. With their great practice, the analysis teams placed first in the Randolph and University of Alabama tournament. In addition, they placed a strong third place at the Vestavia Hills Tournament in Birm- ingham. Finally, in the summer of 1986 in Miami, Florida, they placed fifth in the Mu Alpha Theta National Convention. The Algebra ll Team, sponsored by Linda Hodo and Ann Lilly, met each Tuesday from 3:30 to 4:30 in Room 158 on the East Campus. Their projects in- cluded participation in eight tournaments during the school year and they hosted the eighth grade Algebra I tournament at CHS in the spring.
