As everyone knows we are very dependent on our bus drivers. Therefore, we would like to show our appreciation for the fine work and many hours of one driver in particular by dedicating this annual to him -- AXEL UHD, Born and raised in the Central Union District, he attended the Houghton Grammar School. His three children, born and raised in this district also, attended the Cetnral High School. He has been farming in this district all his life. When he first started his career as bus driver the students would never believe that his name was Uhd and, instead, thought the name was his initials. From then on he acquired the name of Uncle Harry Dudleyl Now after 26 years of service at Central, we the El Centro staff of nineteen hundred and fifty- five, wish to dedicate this book to a very fine person and friend. Problems like these are discussed between the student con- cerned and Mr. Hartman who helps solve these problems with which each student is confronted with. DAMM LUCILLE SMITH LIINILI BERNARD ZARASUA JUANITA ZIGLER Page 3 I 611155 History Now is the time to recall all the happy memories of our four years at Cen- tral Union High School. At the start of our Freshman year we were all a little flustered and scared, more so when we were initiated. The boys were all dressed as sweet, charming young ladies in their mothers' dresses, while the girls looked a little awkward in their fathers' shoes. That year we ordered our pretty green sweaters, and we also ordered our class rings. Our class officers were President, Gary lson, Vice-President, Mike Hill- hogseg Secretary, Pat Burkett, Treasurer, Don Price, and Yell Leader, Henry Eur- gu ian. The start of our Sophomore year proved us to no longer be scared, but proud to be back. Especially since we no longer were Scrubs. This time we initiated the class of 56 in a little program, under the fine guidance of our class officers: President, Phil Wulf, Vice-President, Don Price, Secretary, Jackie Hoyer, Treas- urer, Ruth Lindegren, and Yell Leader, Henry Eurgubian. The third phase of our secondary schooling started with the election of Junior officers: President, Don Price, Vice-President, MikeJura, Secretary,Joyce Anderson, Treasurer, Merlene Jackson, Yell Leader, Doris Dominici, and Ser- geant-at-Arms,. Abe Archuleta. This really was a busy year. First we had our Sock- Hop to raise funds for the Prom. Then Almost Summer, our Junior play, was a big success, portrayed by a fine group of actors. Then to end our Jr. year came our wonderful Jr.-Sr. Prom, at the Rainbow Ballroom. The theme which fit the memorable occasion was Star Dust. Finally our long awaited senior year arrived. lt felt good to be known as the big shots at Central. This was one of the busiest and most remembered year. Taking Sr. pic- tures, ordering announcement cards, and senior pins, and electing Stan Kerber for Sr. President, Ruth Lindegren, Vice-President, Janet Belluomini, Secretary, Mary Vasconcelos, Treasurer, Marlene Otto, Yell Leader, and Eddie Vivenzi, Ser- geant-at-Arms, for our officers. Quite a few celebrities were among us. Barbara Schafer and Bernard Zarazua, King and Queen for the football dance, Anita Stoops and Stan Kerber, Christmas King and Queen, Marlene Otto and Lee Sciacqua, Spring Day King and Queen, Joyce Anderson as May Day Queen. We will always remember the fun we had on Ditch Day and Dress-Up Day. Our senior play, Young, Willing and Able was a big success. The class of 56 honored us at their junior-senior Prom. The last any of us seniors would attend. Then one week before the end of school you could see us in the auditorium sitting in the seats listening to our speaker of the day. This of course was Bacca- laureate. The very last day soon arrived. Graduation. As we lined up and received our diplomas we could all think back to our happy times at Central and yet think of the future. We wish to thank our advisors, Mrs. Denton, Mrs. Palfrey, Mr. Weatherby, Mrs. Hunter, and Mr. Bowyer, for their fine help and guidance. To the students at Central and to the class of 56 we, the seniors of l955 bid you goodbye. We hope that your future years can be as happy and successful as our years were. To the underclassman ot Central-from the Senior Class- We hope that you have as much fun and enjoy your stay at Central as much as we have. You will probably think you have it hard, but when you stop to think about it when you are nearing graduation you will realize that you only thought hard. Enjoy the annual and the few years of your education. Page SO 3 Q IWW? KAHOOLAWE.
