TE EHEHS ANU THEIR EL SSES DEAN OF WOMEN Miss Peterson checks over reasons for absence given to her by Kay Okada ond Noel Moore. l Q DEAN OF MEN Mr. David Hartman counsels Margaret Simonian on her year's work. FACULTY N UTE5 The faculty has had a very successful year. The increase of the students to our school caused four new and interesting members to be added to the faculty. They are Mrs. Maurine Brown, a graduate of the Fresno State College, who teaches Stenography and typing, Miss Mary Dillon, a graduate of the University of Chicago, who teaches English, Miss Dorothy Harris, a graduate ot University of Southern California, who teaches English and social science, and last but not least Miss Marguerite Maynard, a graduate of Oregon State College, who teaches homemaking, and took the heart of Mr. Lewis Carpenter, our math teacher and iained him in matrimony April 24, l948. Mr. and Mrs. Spill- ers entertained the faculty members and their wives at a tea prior to the opening of school. Other social activities for the women faculty members consisted of monthly dinners or parties, The male faculty members confined their social activities to informal discussions during the school lunch hour. The faculty attended the annual teachers' institute held in Fresno last fall. At this institute the teach- ers heard some outstanding speakers on various subjects. The teachers were as happy as the Central students when June rolled around. ELEVEN

You have received training that will help you to attain the goal or life each has set for himself. at Central purpose in This year we have worked, some more diligently than others, on the problem of winning world peace. 'The torch of civilization is not passed on by acci- dent, but by sustained efforts of parents, pastors, teachers and friends. Will you do your part? W. H. Spillers, District Superintendent Central Union High School A LETTER FROM OUR SCHOOL BOARD PRESIDENT Class of '48 good-bye and good luck! We have enjoyed having you here these past years and hope that our school has in many ways helped you to a better understanding and ability to meet lifes problems which are just beginning for you. The Declaration of Independence reads, All men are created equalf which of course is true but that equality only lasts a very brief moment when many other things begin to intervene so that by the time you entered high school you each were different. Any one of you may have taken the same identi- cal studies that a number of others have and yet you are coming out an individual different from ev- ery other one in your class, or for that matter, except for mere chance, there will be no one exactly like you in all the world. What I am trying to impress on you is that your life and what you make of it is up to you to solve. That is why l said good luck at the start and .why l repeat it, Good Luck and God Bless You. Geo, Slcoegard
