WISCONSIN Puausueo av me Joununusm cuss -2- FORWARD As the years slip rapidly into one another, blending thought into thought, word into word, and deed into endless deed, man pauses to reflect on the past and to ponder the future. The life of the present is so brief that it is lost in the identity of first past, then future. Serving as a summation of one year of high school life, the Echo mirrors records made and activities completed. The voice of each individual-student or teacher-is heard, no one plays an unimportant part, nor is any part played by an unim- portant individual. With the 1957-58 school year behind us, picture and copy recreate its memorable moments. While the year's accomplish- ments fade in age, they remain ever fresh in our memories with each glimpse back into the Echo of the past. .-4-. Dedication Few men c and subordinates alike as Mr Horace Glew head of the Central mathematics department His dignit and hi h - Y Q character mark him as an outstanding faculty member d an a friend to all who know him. Coming to us from Pigeon, Michigan High School where he served one year as principal Mr Glew 'oin d , . I e our teaching staff in 1927. Since then he has taught bookk ' ' ' ' eeping and mathematics, and is now in his thir- teenth year as school treasurer. Among his duties are the appointment of girls to work in the treasurer's office, the signing of checks, and handling of all money paid out or taken in by the school. ln the classroom, Mr. Glew is always ready to help those who experience difficulty, and takes a keen interest in all his students' problems Despite a heav l d f . y oa o subiects taught, including elementary and advanced al b ge ra, solid geometry and trigonometry, he manages all his duties efficiently and well, making a hard iob look like an easy one. It is with a feeling of deep pride, in recognition of hi f' ' s many me accomplishments, that the Central iournal- ism class dedicates the 1958 Echo to Mr. Horace Glew. ommand such respect from contemporaries The vacant seats in the auditor- ium pictured at the lower left and right reflect an extreme con- Above: Steve Jonlan gives Marge Ely a l backing in her homework efforts. CLASSES HOMEROOM 103 Back row: Mr. Baetz, A, Dalbec, W... f Juniors The iuniors knew that this year was to be their biggest and best. In anticipating a very successful Junior-Senior Prom, they elected their officers with this in mind. They settled down to the problem before them with Gene Johnson leading them as president, Orville Clark as vice president, Carolyn Holm as secretary, and Judy Kongevick as treasurer. Among their many social events, the iuniors had a successful class party. The problem of choosing a prom king was a difficult one for there were many qualified boys. The juniors are waiting earnestly for their senior year. ' TOP ROW: Gene Johnson, Orville Clark. BOTTOM ROW: Judy Kongevick, Carolyn Holm. D, Wallin, L. Rygg, R. Jensen, T. Wright, J. Vaski, D. Accomplishments rated high on the social, athletic and intellectual scenes. A class party early in the year highlighted class activities, but sophomores while enioying this and other social functions found time to study as well. The placed a great number of students consistently on the honor roll each quarter. Class officers, elected to lead these students in the year's undertakings were Chuck Crisp, president, Tom Leveroos, vice president, Donna Peterson, secretary, and Nancy Nelson, treasurer. Together with the class advisers, these young people worked hard to make their sophomore year an enjoyable, successful venture. -fy? rs' HOMEROOM 227 Back row: Mr. Akers, G. Kardon, L. Greely, T. HOMEROOM 343 Freshmen As usual the freshmen began the school year with the uncertainty of finding their way around the large halls of Central, but that phase passed easily. In activities, the freshmen participated as actively as any of the upper-classmen. For their capable class officers they elected James Lawson as president, Rollie Runions as vice president, Margie Thompson as treasurer, and Marjorie Ely as secretary. Making floats for Viking day and taking part in Student Council were some of their accomp- lishments. Socially, the group was always well represented at all social events at Central. FRESH CHOIR Work in freshman choir serves to prepare Central students for work in advanced singing groups. Under the direction of Miss Lillian Berg, this year's group presented two fine concerts, providing entertainment for the public as well as the student body.
