Anderson, B An active organization with emphasis on the service as well as the social side of life. the Athenae Club had another successful year in '54- '55. They began it with their participation in the Viking Day parade where they combined efforts with the Booster and Coquina Clubs to take first place in the float division of the parade. One of their members, Shirley Kangas, reigned as queen at the Viking Dance. They initiated new mem- bers and gave a formal dinner for them. Later, they directed their energy toselling Christmas cards. stationery, and theater tickets. They held candy and rummage sales to raise funds for their annual gift to the school. They served at teach- ers' meetings and assisted at the Senior Banquet. the Basketball-Football Dinner, and helped with the College Day luncheon. Their Sweater Dance. the Masque Fantasy, was an outstanding school event. Their Mothers' Tea was a delightful occa- sion for both the mothers and the girls. A trip lo the Ice Follies in Minneapolis for the Senior and .Junior girls and their advisor, Miss Tetzler, was the reward they achieved for their three-year participation in this fine organization. Proudly fifty-three service- wise girls worked cooperatively with the other clubs to make social life at Central very enjoy- able for others as well as themselves. They be- gan the year with a Tea for Freshman girls, they held informal and formal initiations for their new members, they did their share in preparing and serving food at the College Day luncheon, and the Football-Basketball and Senior Banquets, and they served coffee and cake to the teachers to put them in a good mood at faculty meetings. Zeal- ously they sold candy, pencils and theater tickets to raise funds for a gift to the school. High on their program of activities they listed a very fes- tive Mothers' Tea, a Valentine party, and a truly memorable Christmas Dance. When spring roll- ed round again, they featured a Fashion Show and treated themselves to a trip to the Ice Follies in Minneapolis. It can honestly be said that these girls, and their advisor Miss Lomoe, took on great- ness by becoming a part of a cause greater than themselves.
