Nor shall we forget his friendly smile and pleasant way. Executives Looking ahead into the future, W, R. Davies, superintendent of Superior public schools, is forever planning new, efficient methods of ine telligently guiding Superior youth up the lad- der of education to enable them to enter a plane of higher knowledge and succeed in this changing world of modern science and indusf try. From the time he greets students over the sound system with his cheery l'Good morning until the end of the school day, Principal Rothwell works with students and faculty members in a spirit of good fellowship. He readily gives advice to those who seek it, eagerly plans and enters into student social activities, and keeps Central's routine running smoothly by his intel- ligent and thoughtful guidance. Mr. Rothwell, co-operating with Student Council members, endeavors to make each school day both interesting and worthwhile to Central students. GHS, x WX A-.. ' .. Q N.- og sa -. . - lt 4 asv! Iuniors voted on sponsoring motion pictures to obtain money for this event. At the beginning of the year, Iuniors met and elected officers to represent their class and make plans for the Prom. An exciting election campaign was held, with speeches by various students for their favorite candidates, public- ity posters, and talks over the sound system. luniors tried to maintain a high morale in Cen- tral, co-operate to attain friendliness among students and so set an example for ambitious young Sophomores. Remembering their own confusion upon entering Central as Sopho- mores, the luniors aided their underclassmen by locating various classrooms for them, PRESIDENT, Doris Urbaniak. VICE PRESIDENT, Robert Rule. SECRETARY, Kenneth West. TREASURER, Richard King, Several activities were carried on by Sopho- mores this year, promoting school spirit for which Central is Well known. Co-operating with their advisers, Mr. lvfahnke, Miss Saun- ders, and Miss Bardon, they were successful in sponsoring a closed mixer, At the end of the year a series of meetings was held for the purpose of acquainting Sopho- mores with the various courses open to them as Iuniors and Seniors here. In this way teach- ers hoped to help the Sophomores plan their programs more efficiently and expediently. In athletics the Sophomores have been well represented and have produced many rising stars, both on the basketball floor and on the gridiron. Central's base ketball team made a better show- ing. lt won five out of 14 games. Athletic enthusiasm caught its second breath when first signs of spring appeared and as soon as local tennis courts were in good condition, members of Central's tennis teams began giving their rackets a good work-out. This year Central's racketeers were victorious in four out of five matches. Among minor sports which are rapidly gaining recogf nition is the golf team which boasts among its members, Ed Iones, the 1937 city champion and runnerfup title-holder in the city in l938. Central's hockey team ranked third in the Head of the Lakes Hockey League. The box- ing, curling, and swimming teams progressed rapidly, and all Won laurels in competition. Promoting good sportsmanship and fair play among boy athletes of Central is one of Coach Harry Conley's prime obiectives Through his fine leadership, he teaches co-operation and alert thinking, both of which are essene tial traits for whatever profession a boy Chooses to follow for his hte work.
