Entm CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL NORTH MANCHESTER, INDIANA ihfcmnmm mmuuiiL am THE CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL ATOM We, the 1956 Seniors, have discovered a new atom which we have named the Central High School Atom. It is very complex, with each individual part depending on the others to function properly. Not wishing to keep our discovery a secret, we are proud to disclose the information we found relative to this new atom. Because of its complexity we have found it necessary to publish an entire book concerning it. This book we call . . . These clubs originally published it, but now there is a regular Cen-Hi-Sun staff, which is chosen from grades seven through twelve. This staff must be on its toes, ready to grab a hot story or write down the latest droodles. It also sponsors several after-game dances. There should be pride in your voice if you can say, ... EN The school year couldn’t be complete without the En Em party for the autographing of the yearbook. The staff has patiently waited for this day when the fruit of their labors is viewed by the students, and is approved and enjoyed by them. EM The financing of the annual is done through advertising, subscriptions, and the En Em dance, sponsored by the staff. Central has the distinction of being the smallest school in Wabash County and bordering counties which has a school orchestra. Full orchestra meets once a week and the strings meet three mornings during the week at 7:30. The orchestra and choruses presented a Winter Concert and the strings entertained at the Pancake Supper. The Central High School Band, composed of 48 members, plays an important role at Central. It sets the mood for pep sessions and plays at all home games. The Central Band participates in the annual High School Band Day held at Manchester College, and this year it played at the National Plowing Contest. Werner-Putman Sawmill, Phone 866 Warner Oil Co. In this, we feel Central played an impressive role with a record of 13 wins and 10 losses. Small but mighty they were and packed with surging spirit. Let's take a look at their vigorous schedule. A fine start quickly established our quintet as one of the top teams in the county. Many will not forget the glorious victory at Wabash. But following this an unfortunate letdown plagued our crew. It seemed difficult for them to find that earlier season form. Then an inspiring comeback! Akron and Silver Lake were bumped off. Now with those encouraging victories under their belts the Trojans traveled to compete in the Sectional. Reaching the Saturday afternoon pairings, our gang closed their season with a very well-played contest against the eventual Sectional and Regional winner, Wabash. And now the day is here. No more will we walk through these familiar halls, smiling at the familiar faces. We will pass through the front door of Central High School and leave behind us the most important years of our lives. We first saw Central as shy, inexperienced kids in the seventh grade. We were still green behind the ears when we became freshmen, but as sophomores, we set our first record, selling the most tickets to the Pancake Supper. Of course, the thrill in our Junior year was the Junior Carnival. Then the final and most important year came. What senior could ever forget this last, glorious year, filled with so many pleasant memories. The record-breaking magazine sales, the parent and senior banquet, the fun we had working on the yearbook, and of course, that memorable event, the senior play, Old Doc. The days kept creeping up on us until finally it was time to leave for New York and Washington on our senior trip. We loved every minute of it and shall never forget it. Then the final day came—Commencement. As we were handed our diplomas, a little quiver of sadness shot through us as we realized that we were leaving Central. But with us go those cherished and fond memories of six happy years at Central John Beam, Vice-President; Alan Frantz, President; Karl Merritt. Treasurer; Dec Cleveland.
