We have preserved in wax the events that will remain long and fond in our memories. All high school is a Big Top and each of us a mere side show. So, come along through the side shows while we reminisce the rich experiences we have shared in these, our first and long remembered years, until we make our last great performance—graduation. The staff lays out the pages, has pictures made, does write-ups. puts the book together, and sends it in. There is then a waiting period in which everyone sits around on pins and needles, and finally the En Ems are all finished and brought back to the school. There is then an En Em party for autographing the annuals. Financing the annual is done mostly through advertising and subscriptions. A talent show is held after the last home basketball game, and a free-will offering is taken to help with En Em expenses. Mr. Shonk was the sponsor of the group. Tom Mote Elaine Waechter SENIORS . . . Entering the Big Top! Gosh, it was great. We were only seventh graders then, but by the time we were eighth graders we were well on our way to the top. In the Freshman year, the girls were initiated into Sunshine as hillbillys” while the boys stood around and laughed. By the time we were Sophomores we were ready and willing to make some money. And boy, did we! First we helped the Juniors put on a successful pancake supper. Then when we were Juniors we took over the Carnival.” It was a huge success. Later that year we got ambitious and sponsored the St. Pat’s Dance for the whole school. We also made money selling cokes, popcorn, candy, apples, and hot dogs at the home basketball games. That was the year we got our class rings, too. Public Service Company—Good, low cost electric service.—Wetzel Insurance Agency—Where Insurance is a Business. Pjgc Twelve Now that we are Seniors we hate to leave the Big Top. It has been a great year. Now it was our turn to have fun initiating the Freshmen. We girls dressed them like clowns and the boys made them bow down every chance they got. Our Senior class party was one of the best and most enjoyed that we ever had. In November we started selling magazines and we set the record for Central by selling over $2,000 worth of subscriptions. We celebrated by having a turkey supper for which the Curtis Publishing Company provided the turkey. Mr. Peck, the district representative, was there and presented a watch to Steve Hearn, the highest salesman, plus certificates and trophies to many others. Later on in the year we chose our caps and gowns and Commencement announcements. Aside from those on the staff there were those who wrote and those who took pictures and probably most important of all those who sold the En Ems. When March rolled around we were knee deep in our Senior play Meet Me in St. Louis.” We took on the added responsibility of costumes, music, and putting the play on two nights. Even though Miss Noffsinger did feel like killing us a few times, the play was a super sensational success. During most of April we spent much of our time day-dreaming about those wonderful days of our Senior trip. Finally on May 15, we boarded the train in Columbia City and awa-a-ay we went. Our grand finale was Commencement night as we walked up the aisle and out of the Big Top, wishing that we were just entering again. During the year of 1954-55, Central's baseball team engaged in 14 contests, with 7 in the fall and 7 in the spring. Spring baseball was introduced for the first time and the Trojans played such teams as Columbia City, Kokomo, Warsaw, Logansport, and Akron. All in all, it was a good year for the diamond boys. (j • A. A • • • The Girl s Athletic Association, now in its tenth year at Central, is under the capable leadership of Mrs. Dan Senseman. Sixty-three girls participate in such sports as softball, volleyball, basketball, ring toss, and kickball each Thursday afternoon. The highlight of the year was the annual high school girl's basketball tournament, which was won by the sophomore girls. w- R rcW:, la.r 's- Sec-' J. Hare. Pres.; Mrs. Senseman, Sponsor; C. Wcimcr. THE VARSITY As far as successful seasons go, the Trojans won more than half their games, with a 12 won and 10 lost record. From the first game of October to the very last in February, the team worked hard, striving to correct their weaknesses, training together, and trying to live up to Central's basketball record of past years. When they got beat, they knew the reason—the other team was better at the time, but the Trojans were going to work like everything to show that they could improve. The most exciting experience of the season was winning the 4-way holiday tournament tronhy by defeating the Wabash County champs, Laketon. They also tripped the highly regarded Silver Lake team by a margin of nine points. Then there were Angola, Converse, Sidney, Mentone, Noble, Chester, Roann, and Washington Center—all of whom met their fate at the hands of the Men of Troy. Of the ten players, graduation will claim four, Dave Brace, Myron Miller, Tom Mote, and Jim Ulrey. Fans should look forward, however, to next year when Dave, Karl, Dick, Roger, Fred, and Dave will give everything to uphold the name of Central Trojans. % Cussen Service Center—Wing's Flowers—For All Occasions Page Thirty-Seven Pjge Tbirty-Eigh: Louie's Sport Shop—Noah Baker—Lawn Mower and Saw Sharpening Dave Dave Roger Dave Kari.
