UBHAHY The school library is cooperative with other departments in the field of learning and provides materials for information, inspiration and recreation. The library has a collection of approx- imately 8000 volumes and subscribes to 70 periodicals and 3 daily newspapers. ln addition to books, the library houses films and film strips, records, pamphlet mater- ial, and pictures. A very fine art collection consisting of books and reproductions is also kept in the library. MATTIE MILNER A.B. Conventions ldistrict and statel, the traditional Christmas dinner, a lunch- eon sometimes during the year, and a tea. These latter events are all planned and prepared by the food classes. PAUL D. BLACKLEDC-E B.S., M.S. University of Alabama Mississippi State College The pupil is required to spend two class periods each day with a special teacher known as a Coor- dinator. Diversified Occupations includes both Trade and Industrial Education and Distributive Education. From 75 to 80 pupils enroll each year. The total earning of the 75 students enrolled for the month of November 1951 was S3,641.44. Through this program, a pupil may graduate from high school with a regular high school diplo- ma and also with one or two years work experience plus the technical training so valuable in securing permanent employment. It is possible for a pupil to take this work and prepare for college entrance. Each spring there is the Employer-Employee Banquet and the Mississippi Trade and Industrial and Distributive Education Club Convention. PllH1 illlll EUUPEHATIVE THAININE FHllGHlllll Recognizing that the best place to secure the proper training for a vocation is on the job, a pro- gram has been set up in the high school system known as the Vocational Part-Time Cooperative Training Program in Diversified Occupations. lt offers an opportunity to extend training beyond the range of occupations which are ordinarily consid- ered apprenticeable. Any boy or girl, 16 years of age or over, a junior or senior in high school may enroll in this program and receive training in his or her chosen occupation. ELLIS V. WINDAM B.S., M.E.
