H. ll. l. E. The Central High School Junior R.O.- T.C. is the only unit ot its type in the state of Mississippi. The program is spon- sored by the department of the Army in close alliance with the principal and teachers of Central. For the past several years the unit has been designated as an Honor School by the Department of the Army because ot the high standards maintained. MAJ. STEPHEN B. Sgt. lst Class MORRISEY GLEN D. SPEARS The primary objectives of the R.O.T.C. unit is to lay the foundation for intelli- gent citizenship by teaching the principles ot leadership, respect for constituted au- thority, and habits of precision order- liness, courtesy, hygiene and deportment. Upon reaching this objective it has pre- pared its cadets to serve their country as members of the Armed Forces when and it they are called upon.

SEIENEE DEPARTMENT ln Science classes students learn fun- damental truths through observation, ex- ploration and experimentation. They also learn to use these truths as a basis for sound thinking and forming worthwhile opinions. Science education helps to instill a well-developed reasoning in the students. lt guides students toward good citizen- ship through emotional and intellectual development. R. G. Here boys as well as girls are taught to be good homemakers and taught the importance of a happy home life. ELIZABETH HEARD B.S. Mississippi State College for Women SPECIAL EVENTS Highlighting events of the year are the F.H.A. Conventions ldistrict and statel, the traditional Christmas dinner, a lunch- eon sometimes during the year, and a tea. These latter events are all planned and prepared by the food classes.
