SllEllll STUDIES llEPllHTNlENT The purpose in studying history and the other social studies is to gain an under- standing of the present day world. This knowledge of contemporary affairs can only be obtained by a study of past events, persons, and ideas. The four history cours- es offered at Central High School are World History, American History, Amer- ican Government and Economics. Throughout the social studies program an effort is made to encourage independ- ent thinking on the part of the student. The goal is for each student to reason logically and to think for himself.
