THE AEGIS STAFF The Aegis, oldest high school newspaper in Houston, and one of the oldest in the South, is edited and managed by students in the Journalism Department, under the sponsorship of Mr. Fred R. Birney, instructor in Journalism. Students are in charge of all phases of the work, and receive special training as a result of their work on the staff. Only those who show special ability in some type of newspaper work are included in the group. These student-journalists receive a gold pin, a replica of the Aegis, as awards for their efforts. Laurence Black, Editor-in-Chief, Fall Term, 1935, deserves special credit for his work in organizing an inexperienced staff into a well rounded group. Others who are outstanding for their work are: Joanne Storm, Spring Term Editor-in-Chief; Dorothy Pike, De Lories Connable, Mildred White, Lee Bell, Florence Cohen, Rose Zainfeld, Hal Weidemeyer, Harry Botts, Florita Foley, Helen Pasternak, Wilma Rhodes, Lois Lee Qualtrough, Lester Kaminsky, Charles Kiefer, Janet Goldberg, Mary Louise Rion, Jeanne Chappelle, Joe Cannon, and Julia Turner. Circulation staff members who insured the success of the Aegis through their efforts in the subscrip¬ tion drive are Jo Marie Clark, circulation manager, Lester Kaminsky, Rose Zainfeld, Natalie Bowers, Winnie Lee Baylor, Nell Tully, Louise Bendall, Mildred Caton, Nathan Ende, Sidney Iliriart, Floyd Farquhar, and De Lories Connable. Advertising solicitors whose efforts aided the financial success of the Aegis for the year included Virginia Cargill, Florine Rosenfelder, Elizabeth Steele, Melvin Sneed, Mary Joyce Frank, Virginia Bish, Martha Ellen Boynton, De Lories Connable, Raymond Stolz, Joanne Storm, Floyd Farquhar, F. V. Borup, Sidney Hiriart, Walter Anthony, L. B. Anthony, Nathan Ende, Howard Lewis, Gussie Leah Arney, Looscan Ward, George Goetz, and John Rougagnac. Through the untiring efforts of these students, the publication of the 1935-36 Aegis was accomplished in a most successful manner. Outstanding members of the staff were awarded the gold Aegis pins at the close of the term and were taken to the State Interscholastic League Meet in Austin, May 1, as representatives and guests of The Aegis. 1836 ...-
