TALK OF THE TONGUE Hey diddle diddle—Surely we never thought of our own Harriet Gregory as Bo Peep, grown slightly, and not alto¬ gether lacking sophistication, hut it looks as if that Bo Peep plan of Leave ’em alone and they’ll come home’’ is being so effectively put into practice around S. H. that all the lost sheep are knocking each other down in the rush! Don’t know whether Gaynelle Furley bakes cherry pie or not, but somehow or other that little Sonny” Allbritton re¬ minds us of dear ole’ Billee Boy ' Re¬ member? And here’s a good one—Mary, Mary (quite contrary) might well be changed to Marion, Marion ,” because Miss Oberholtz IS quite contrary with her daz¬ zling smiles. In fact, we put her next to the Queen of Hearts. Who? Why, Augusta Hardin, of course! Georgey Porgey, Puddin’ Pie,” who kissed the girls (but they didn ' t cry) goes under another name at Sam Houston. Need we say— Harry Kennedy ? We don’t know about Peter the Pump¬ kin eater, but one thing is sure, Marcelle Moran is the gal no one can keep! No sir, this lil’ gal is independent. About as in¬ dependent as the Three Wise Men of Gotham, none other than Chetty, Freddy, and Teddy ( Chonowski, Gilmore , and Wim¬ berly, respectively). These inseparables haven’t put to sea in a bowl yet, but some of their capers nearly measure up. Really, all the S. II. gentlemen” re¬ mind one of the self-same, well known character. That’s an easy one— Simple Simon met a pieman on his way to school; said Simple Simon to the pieman, are there any cool?—Sai d the pieman to Sim¬ ple Simon, How many?—But Simple Simon, tired of rhymin’, said—Quick, I’m late, give me all you’ve got . . .!” A few specific examples you ask?—Fur’ in¬ stance, Jack Heard, the mighty, pretty Joe Taylor and, naturally, J. 7 . Faulkner, who down pies like an ant goes after sugar. —That Jack who couldn’t work fast enough for Margery Daw couldn’t possi¬ bly be Jack Hunter. Any Margery Daw around here wouldn’t pay a penny a day —she’d let him off with a bonus after the first date. One more, children, and then the tongue takes a holiday while the sandman closes your sleepy eyes. It’s our old friend, the little girl with a curl in the middle of her forehead (only she went modern on us and chopped it off)—True to the old tale, when Katherine Smith is good she’s very, very good, but when she’s bad—well ask Charlie Myers —Anyway, she’s not hor¬ rid! That’ll be all for tonight, dears. Close your eyes and dream of all the angels in the wide blue world (like Virginia Bishop and Doris Twitchell). But come down to earth again before the Tongue Talks Again.

REVISED NURSERY RHYMES Hi diddle diddle, the cat and the fiddle. The cow jumped over the moon— Buttermilk Simple Simon met a pieman going to the fair, Said Simple Simon to the pieman, Hello! There was a little girl, who had a little curl Right in the middle of her forehead. When she was good, she was very, very good. But when she was bad. She was better! Little Miss Muffet sat on a tuffet. Eating of curds and whey. Along came a spider, and said. Move over! This little pig went to market, This pig went to see the farmer in the dell. This little pig went to heaven, And this little pig went to heaven, too! Humpty Duinpty sat on a wall, Humpty Dumpty had a great fall, And all the king’s horses. And all the king’s men. Had egg-nog! Trot trot to Boston To buy a loaf of bread. Trot trot home again. Use Blue-Hawk for corns. (It never fails!) (Paid advertisement) Mary, Mary, quite contrary. How does your garden grow? Silver bells and cockle shells. And the rest haven’t come up yet. Dickery, Dickery, Dock; Two mice ran up the clock. The clock struck one (P.S.—The other one got away!) The girl who. Is early to bed and early to rise. Is really a wallflower. In disguise! Where are you going my pretty maid With your rosy cheeks and your golden hair?— ’’Fresh guy!” she said. Little Jack Nory Told me a story. Shame on Jackie! ’Twas the night before Xmas, And all through the joint. Not a creature was stirring. And that’s all I loint!
