And here’s a good one—Mary, Mary (quite contrary) might well be changed to Marion, Marion ,” because Miss Oberholtz IS quite contrary with her daz¬ zling smiles. In fact, we put her next to the Queen of Hearts. Who? Why, Augusta Hardin, of course! Georgey Porgey, Puddin’ Pie,” who kissed the girls (but they didn ' t cry) goes under another name at Sam Houston. Need we say— Harry Kennedy ? We don’t know about Peter the Pump¬ kin eater, but one thing is sure, Marcelle Moran is the gal no one can keep! No sir, this lil’ gal is independent. About as in¬ dependent as the Three Wise Men of Gotham, none other than Chetty, Freddy, and Teddy ( Chonowski, Gilmore , and Wim¬ berly, respectively). These inseparables haven’t put to sea in a bowl yet, but some of their capers nearly measure up. Really, all the S. II. gentlemen” re¬ mind one of the self-same, well known character. That’s an easy one— Simple Simon met a pieman on his way to school; said Simple Simon to the pieman, are there any cool?—Sai d the pieman to Sim¬ ple Simon, How many?—But Simple Simon, tired of rhymin’, said—Quick, I’m late, give me all you’ve got . . .!” A few specific examples you ask?—Fur’ in¬ stance, Jack Heard, the mighty, pretty Joe Taylor and, naturally, J. 7 . Faulkner, who down pies like an ant goes after sugar. —That Jack who couldn’t work fast enough for Margery Daw couldn’t possi¬ bly be Jack Hunter. Any Margery Daw around here wouldn’t pay a penny a day —she’d let him off with a bonus after the first date. One more, children, and then the tongue takes a holiday while the sandman closes your sleepy eyes. It’s our old friend, the little girl with a curl in the middle of her forehead (only she went modern on us and chopped it off)—True to the old tale, when Katherine Smith is good she’s very, very good, but when she’s bad—well ask Charlie Myers —Anyway, she’s not hor¬ rid! That’ll be all for tonight, dears. Close your eyes and dream of all the angels in the wide blue world (like Virginia Bishop and Doris Twitchell).
