All the Central team played as they never played before, but one word spelled their defeatg it was Martellra of Heights. The game ended I9 to I2 and gave the Bulldogs the City championship for the first time in four years, Next year with Frankie Halla as leader and with Sullivan and Cary back to help Central again, we should have even more success than this year. been expected still the Central stands were as well filled as those of Ball High Our team then proceeded to hang up the annual victory over the Island Citv team It was well hung notwithstanding the incidental touchdown made bv Calveston It was in this game that Moody ran for so many touchdowns most of which were called back for one reason or another Nevertheless Central accumulated a score of 30 to Ball Hig s , After playing out of town for three weeks Central came back to the familiar W est Pnd to close her season The first opposition was in the form of Austin High It had been rumored that Austin had a real team and this was doubly impressed on all spec tators as the game opened When Ixattmann started the ball rolling at the kick off the captain of Austin grabbed it and started for a touchdown Prom the sidelines it looked disastrous but the run was called back part wav for out of bounds The game went on more evenly after that and towards the end of the half a pass from Moody to lxattmann resulted in the Tigers lone touchdown. 'I he rest of the game though full of spectacular runs did not net anything for either side and the game ended with '1 6 too score for Central. Ihe day after Thanksgiving the Tigers met the Toms. Perhaps this w s the most spectacular ame of the season. In the first half it appeared often as if the teams were playing basketball and were dribbling the ball. At any rate the ball was almost on the enemy s goal line when a Qt. Thomas player scooped up a fumble and raced the full length of the field for I1 touchdown. Then a few plays later Central made '1 fumble in midfield which likewise was picked up by a Tom s player but the latter did not quite reach the goal before he was downed. The rest of the half was a mass of fumbles and lack of team-work. ust what tonic Doc used to revive the team between halves is either unknown or unavailable for publication, but it was a different team that went out onto the field after the intermission. The touchdowns were made to order in quick succession, and when the bewildered St. Thomas team left the field, the score was pointing to Central 27 to 6. Little need be said about the Heights-Central game. Everyone knows what happened. The Tigers were beaten, but the fight they put up against the Bulldogs will be long remembered. Because both sides were nervous and perhaps over-anxious, they have been criticised for the many fumbles. Central did not make more fumbles than Heights, but they certainly' did not recover them in as advantageous places as did the Bulldogs. llllillllllmlll lm FE' i E 5 ' S 5 f has C.
