As you receive your diplorna-your paper to clear your home port, Central High School-you will embark upon your journey through life. With you will go the sincere wishes of the teachers and the principal for a successful voy- age. As you chart your course across the sea of living a useful life and of aiding others and of doing good, may you avoid the shoals, the undertows, the cross currents, the rough water, which threaten to wreck your ship and make your voyage difficult and unpleasant. Rather, may you have clear and pleasant sailing. May you have a safe trip and arrive at your port on the Golden Shores ol great accomplish- ment, glowing happiness, and radiant success! Godspeed to You! A. REESE MATTESON, Principal 'xl war-JP-'ia we ,iw .726 MV? C1706 Congratulations and best wishes to the Class of Ianuary 1957. EDWARD F. FOLLEY Vice-Principal MZCZ. . . I hope that the knowledge you have gained here will help you as you learn to navigate your particular ship through all kinds of weather. Chart your course carefully to make the most of your ship's strength and try to change her weak- nesses into strength so that as your cruise approaches your home port, I hope, you will be able to look back at a life that has been spent with wonderful ship- mates aboard a happy ship. 'MISS MARY F. BAEURLE Ls X,-QW! You are about to set your course for the next phase of life's voyage. Ai Page 34 vzgfrgezog Four years ago, these halls we now know so well, were quite strange and perhaps a bit frightening to us as freshmen. ln those days, we carried all our books and coats around and wished we had a locker. And those seniors-they were so much older than we. We had some hard times at first, trying to get used to those new subjects of algebra, Latin, European history, Civics, and high school English. The freshman tests given by the S.G.A. helped us understand a little about our new school. Do you remember when ludy Cortese won first prize, Roger White took second and Fran- ces Pio won third prize in the results? Then there came the Cherry Tree Festival where Rosemarie Parese and loseph Ci- roni were chosen l-l King and Queen. We got through our first year, then we were sophomores. We knew the school well by now and couldn't understand how those little freshmen could get themselves so mixed up. lt was at this time that Elaine Romanelli and Frank Aiello were chosen Prince and Princess of the sophomore class. Finally the day we had anxiously awaited arrived. We were juniors, upper classmen now. We settled down to US. history, wrote our first essays, and some of us started on the exciting but exacting task of becoming journalists. During this time we started thinking seriously about our future. After all, soon we would be seniors. We buckled down to work in class, but the year was not lacking in fun. lust being in school with our friends, worrying and studying together, was pleasant. Then it happened, we became seniors. ln our 4-l term we pro- duced the TATLER. We also chose Miss M. F. Baeurle and Mr. S. Kaplan as advisers and elected loe Di Brigida, Walter Leonhard, Connie D'Amico, and Mary Ann I-lack as class officers. The com- mittee lists were made up and our first dance, Aloha Seniors was held. As 4-2's we wrote our senior essays in the midst of selling Christ- mas cards and magazinesubscriptions. We also struggled with Problems in American Democracy and wondered how we'd ever have time to finish everything and graduate. Work on the COLT was frantic and very secretive but fun for all concerned. We gave our Freshman Ball, then the Autumn Leaves Rhapsody. Finally Thanksgiving came, then Christmas. After the holiday gaiety we settled down to the seriousness of examinations. Next came the Prom which was held at the Chanticleer. Finally our graduation day arrived. We walked down that aisle in Man- ley Hall with mixed emotions. Then bid our farewell to our Alma Mater and thanked her for the memories. V 1, if 5 Ponrs PAUL MUNCH Coming out for the team as a junior, Paul played a year of I.V. ball but was ham- pered by an ear injury the following year. In '55 he came up to the squad as a hard tackling defensive end. NORM REMICK Directing the Colt attack as a sharp passing quarter- back, Norm was also out- standing as a pitcher for the Colt nine. Becoming a three letterman in '56, he was an asset to the basketball team because of his fine defen- sive ability. OLIN BROWN An elusive half back for the Colts, Olin, with his ex- ceptional speed, was able to evade many a tackler, His speed proved profitable again to him on the basket- ball courts, where he was a member of the starting five in '55 and '56. DENNIS PETRAITIS Dennis took over the posi- tion of right guard for the Colt eleven after coming out for the squad in his junior year. In '56 Dennis was hampered by injuries and saw limited action. TOE SEKULA Ioe became Central's num- ber one defensive end in '55 Outstanding in his offensive play the following year, Ioe scored an 89 yard touch- down against East Ruther- ford after recovering a fum- ble. vi ffxfitha wr...
