14 PQUTBALL :During the fall, football is THE sport at MHS. The .Roughers compete in the tough Oklahoma Six Confer- ence - the conference has produced four state champi- ons during the 19'7Os. This year the Roughers, along with Tulsa Washington and Tulsa McLain, were the favorites to battle for the league trophy. The Roughers started preseason training- in August. Their first game was a victory over Okmul- -gee and then in order the Roughers played McAlesterL Norman and Rogers before opening their conference year with a 21-0 triumph over Tulsa Edison. After Edison came Tulsa East Central, Sapu1paL Tulsa Central, and Tulsa Washington in consecutivef home dates. The season closer was with Tulsa McLain. The Roughers started the season in the wishbone but after four games switched to the I. They lost to Rog: ers the first week after the switch but then came the win over Edison and they were off and runningg The best seats in the house are what Terrie Burris wants for her parents as ,she buys some season football tickets from Karen Davis, who works in the bank under the direction of Kenneth Higdon. In ,the Roughers'gfirst game against Okmulgeeh nearly every seat was sold and Muskogee fans were treated to a 27-13 triumph. Below, halfback Eugene Simmons scores one of Muskogee's four TDs in the game-.
