Dcdimfirw M rs. Lillian Gassaway Mrs. Gassaway has become a symbol to thousands of our students who have passed through the halls of Central High. She symbolizes patience, hope, and abounding faith in the American dream of education for all. The prayers -and good wishes of all those Whom she has influenced go with her. TO THE 1967 SENIORS: Congratulations! The Muskogee Board of Education, the Central High School faculty, and I are proud of the 1967 Class. We have a natural concern for each graduate as he or she goes forth into the workaday or higher educational world. It has been the desire of the Muskogee Schools to prepare you adequately to communicate, to be familiar with the principles and operation of our number system, to have a natural curiosity for the natural and scientific, to -have a greater understanding and appreciation of your cultural heri- tages, and to have an enthusiasm for our American concept of the profit and free enterprise system of economics. We sincerely hope that you will have the desire of the Athenian youth: To pass on to the next generation a little better way of life than your generation has passed to you. We believe that your educational skills, capacity for critical thinking, your vivid imagination, and industry will enable you to make a place for yourself in our social, economic, and political community. Our best wishes attend you as you go forth, whether to college, a job, or to homemaking. We be- lieve that you will give a good accounting of yourself in the competetive world of which you are a part. We pray that the ideals, high principles, and the inspiration you have received in Central High School will have prepared you to meet the challenges and problems of adulthood. We are con- fident that you will add honor, prestige, and positive good to our American way of life. Claude C. Harris Superintendent Mcssngc to Scuiars TO THE GRADU'ATING CLASS OF 1967: Congratulations to you, Class of 1967. You are the first class to graduate -from the new Central High School located at 3200 East Shawnee Street. This is the year that will always live in your memory as a milestone in your life. Your senior year has been unusual. Moving into a new high school building is something that happens to only a few of us once in a lifetime. You have endeavored to show'your ap- preciation by taking good care of the new facilities. Your goal has been to leave it as you found it: A beautiful new building. The students, faculty, and staff of Central have been proud of its heritage through the years. As a class, you helped to transplant this heritage to a new building. After .you leave this place, you will one day realize that the administration and the faculty have taken the responsibility of offering to you a program of studies and instruction which will provide a firm foundation of academic and physical training. In turn it has been your responsibility as young men and women to use every resource within yourselves and the school to obtain the maximum benefits available. I have great faith in you and I am convinced that tomorrow's world will be in good hands because of the high economic, social, political, and spiritual ideals which will be a part of your adult lives. My best wishes go with you, and I shall always be interested in you and your future. James E. Sandage Principal Dr. Francis T. Tuttle, former Superintend- ent of Schools, recalls the vigorous cam- paign waged in favor of getting the bonds passed for the new school. He congratulates Muskogee citizens on the finished product. Dr. Robert B. Kamrn, President of Okla- homa State University, inspires us with, his words on bread, books, and brother- hood, the basic needs of mankind. Dr. Virgil Matthews, Member of the Board of Education, presents the key to the build- ing to Mr. James Sandage, Principal of Central High School. Mr. Claude Harris leads in the dedication. Doiiioofioo of filo New Koofrol High School Oofooor 23, I 966 , DEDICATION MESSAGE Let us now with 'earnest hearts and with exhalted faith and hope solemnly consecrate this building to this high and holy purpose. May the youth of this community for generations to come gather in this place to receive instruction in knowledge and training in virtue. May they find here every condition necessary to a true and enlightened education. Especially may their teachers- be examples in scholarship and character, seekers after goodness and truth, lovers of children, enthusiasts and adept in the finest of all arts, the development and inspiration of the human soul. May these rooms always be pervaded with an invigorating atmosphere of mental and moral life, and may no youngster pass from this school to higher schooling or to the outer world without having been made more intelli- gent, more thoughtful, more courageous, more virtuous, and in every way more capable of wise, just, useful and noble living. To this end may the blessing of God be upon child and parent, upon pupil and teacher, upon principal and superintendent, upon the members of the Board of Educatlon and citizens of the school community, upon everyone whose influence will in any degree affect the work of education as it shall be conducted within these walls.-Scott The cafeteria carries out the soft color patterns used The brightly carpeted library has open stacks through throughout the school. I think one of the attitudes we can adopt in order to attain this end is to lay our ideals aside as individuals and as nations and try to judge situations according to different stand- ards, not just our own or the one adopted by our country. I have been received well everywhere I have been, but most of all at Central. What I have enjoyed most is marching with the drill team at the football games, the pep assemblies, coronations and all club meetings.
