Q Q2 No more worthy teacher has ever been chosen for this honor. Endowed with a keen intellect and genuine concern for young people, Mrs. Thornton has been faithful to her calling. She makes this observation about our school, its past, present, and future. Through the years all students and teachers of Central High School have been proud of its heritage. The student body has continuously maintained a high degree of scholastic achievements. In the rapidly changing movements brought on by automation, Central High School has met the challenge. '

TO THE SENIORS OF 1966: As I write this parting message to you in the month of Oklahoma's 75th birthday, controversy rages over the United States' participation in the Viet Nam conflict. Our govern- ment feels that the spread of communism must be stopped, regardless of the cost. Violent disagreement is being regis- tered by individuals and factions who have gone so far as to burn their draft cards and even themselves! Your class- mates are leaving the halls of Central to go on active duty in the service of their choice. Others of you are being de- ferred from the draft, preferring to retain the status of stu- dent. A petition supporting the action of our government is being circulated bythe student council. After it is signed by all members of the student body who want to sign it, it will be mailed to President Lyndon B. Johnson. Meanwhile, awesome feats are being accomplished in the fields of science and technology. During your senior year, a man walked in space and returned unharmed with his partner to earth. An airplane, with passengers and crew totaling 40, was flown around the earth over the poles for the first time-a distance of 26,000 miles- in 62 hours and 28 minutes! These feats were symbolic of the many ad- vances being made. How ironic that we have made such great advances in science but have not yet learned to live together in peace. I challenge you, as you leave high school, to do something that previous generations have been unable to do: Discover how men can live together in harmony so that the discov- eries of science may be used to raise the standard of living of men everywhere. JAMES E. SANDAGE Principal TO THE SENIORS OF 1966: The Muskogee Board of Education, the School Adminis- tration and teachers are truly proud of the Muskogee youth, especially our graduating seniors. We believe that you have an appreciation for the economic, political, social, moral a sd spiritual ideals that make our community, state and na- tion the most desirable place in the world to grow up and live in. We believe that your public school education has prepared you educationally, mentally, emotionally, and physically for participating effectively in your kind of,world. Your skills, capacity for critical thinking, and sincere de- sire to be a useful citizen will enable you to become a happy, participating, and contributing member in the af- fairs of our land. My best wishes accompany you as you go forth to col- lege, the work-a-day world, home and community building or in whatever pathway the good Lord may guide your footsteps. We pray that Central has prepared you for a life that will add honor, glory, and prestige to the American way of life. CLAUDE C. HARRIS Superintendent
