Printing the Chieftain. Mr. Kenneth R. Burcliard, past p rinting instructor. Mr. Sherman Lees directing Q class in printing, Operating the linotype machines. Let's Go To Press Hats off to the printing department for being such a help to Central! Not only do they print the Scout and the Chieftain, but all the printed materials for the Muskogee city school system. These boys are being trained for their position as professional printers in the world of tomorrow. With the modern equipment of the print- in i department, the boys can learn the different t-,fpen nf printing and choose the individual line that suits them best. Boys begin the printing course in the tenth grade, and learn the history of printing and printing mathematics gradually working up to becoming photo-engravers, lino- type operators, job or cylinder pressmen or other kinds of printers. When his course is completed, each boy has passed the test of all types of print- ers and is prepared to specialize in one type of work or take a job as a versatile printer.

Time flies when one is working toward a goal. Boys in the woodwork classes are learning to be the skilled workmen of tomorrow. Future builders will come from the mechanical drawing classes, who are taught a craft in which accuracy and neatness figure most highly. Different types of mechanics are taught in the shop classes and the boys get varied inform- ation on auto parts and paint and re-decoration projects. Many boys are interested in the me- chanical drawing classes, because it is a good place to develop creative ability. This is an important phase in the curriculum, since it pre- pares a great many boys for the future.
