Sweeping past the rich savannas, Past broad fields, a nation's strength, Bankful brims the Mississippi Blessing earth in all her length. Countless men have known the river And have served her with their lives, Fought her fury when the torrent, Bearing gray disaster, drives. But above her mighty anger Is her benison of good. Seeded, watered by her passing, Is a people’s brotherhood. In gray majesty the waters Of the Mississippi sweep Past our homeland. Like her current, Faith and love arc broad and deep.

We have chosen 01' Man River”—the mighty Mississippi—as our theme for the 1957 CHIF.F. It has played such an important part in the history and growth of our Twin Cities and has given our town the distinction of being Arkansas' only seaport. Central High is indirectly obligated and grateful to the mighty Mississippi for its existence, and now we are even more conscious of the part it will play in our future since there is a probability that Helena will have a bridge in the very near future. Now we humbly present to you, students and faculty of Central, your 1957 CHIEF. We hope you will enjoy it now and through the years.
