Walking through the halls any hour of the day, one may usually hear music floating through the building. It comes from the third floor where the entire music department is situated. It may be the Central High School Orchestra practicing persist- ently until perfection is reached. Besides taking a large part in the Christmas and Spring Concerts, and offering selections between acts at the fall senior play, the orchestra performed a job which is unique in Central's history. Under the direction of Mr. Joseph Kertesz, it played Mendelssohnis music for 'KA Midsummer Night's Dream by VVilliam Shakes- peare, which was presented by the June senior class. The band is also sponsored and directed by Mr. Kertesz. lt too participated in the Christmas and Spring Concerts. It was to music supplied by the band that the seniors marched down the aisle at graduation. The band also played with the All-City Row 3-Mrs. Ridenour, J. Grossman, H. Lepofsky, H. Butler, M. Avrushin, M. Hanners, A. Kovan, F. Berg. Band, which is made up of high school bands throughout Detroit. Both the band and the orchestra performed in several school assemblies. The choir, under the direction of Dr. Harry Seitz, head of the music department, has sung in school assemblies, the All-City High School Choir, and several radio presentations. The ensemble, also directed by Dr. Seitz, is made up of members of the choir and orchestra, and is active outside school as well as in. Throughout the year it has entertained at businessmen's luncheons and Kiwanis meetings. The group also participated' in the Music Assembly.
