Bn Affairs ot State Settled By Council as .Sita FALL PRESIDENT ELAINE BRAVERMAN cf . The Student Council is the student government in Central High School. It is the group through which the student body may express its will, desires, and its complaints through student representatives. It is the duty of each Student Council representative to report to the groups the events of each meeting. A special attempt was made to see that all groups were adequately covered. The officers of the fall term were: Elaine Braver- man wielding the gavel, Gloria Manela as Elaine's assistant, Eleanor Banks writing the minutes, and Phyllis Zager holding the purse strings. During the spring term, Ronald Horwitz presided and was assisted by Jerry Uzansky. Marilyn Frankel recorded the minutes and Oscar Glieberman took care of the fi- nances. With the aid and guidance of Mr. Benjamin Chinitz, sponsor, the council published a weekly bulletin which listed the school's activities for the week and were distributed to the groups. Flowers were sold at both senior plays and book covers were sold at the begin- ning of each term. A scholarship fund was created FALL STUDENT COUNCIL-Row 1-P. Zager, E. Row 3-N. White, B. Gamburd, A. Students Publish Handbook which was made possible by the sale of bookcovers. A scholarship of S100 is to be awarded each term to some deserving student. At the beginning of each term the Council sponsors the Freshman Orientation assemblies to explain the activities and opportunities that are open to newcomers to the school. During the course of the year, this group helped the Parents Association with the Fun Fair and held an installation of officers and members during one of the assemblies in the auditorium. The Council also continued work on its handbook, which will be current and up-to-date, and will aid the stu- dent in understanding the activities and programs at Central. A lunchroom committee was organized to investi- gate the lunchroom problem and to send recommenda- tions and possible solutions to the administration for consideration. This group sent two representatives to the All-City Student Council and had the honor of having one of its own, Gloria Manela, elected as treasurer of the organization.
