Hood sixteen The coming of fall means means the coming of football at Central. Sparked by the fine hard play of such names as Ioe Brown, Irv Biegel and Ray Hood, the Trailblazers made every game this season an interesting one. A good example of this was the Mackenzie game. Central trailed Mackenzie until about two minutes were left in the game when little E. Ersher. I. Wood, I. Rakotz. Ioe Brown slanted off tackle for a touchdown. Quarterback Irv Biegel's kick was good and the Blazers brought home a victory. Central's only non-league game was against a very strong Southeastern team which downed the Blue and White, 25 to 6. Central followers were privileged to watch their team play a night game at Wyoming Field against

This year's cross country team showed a marked improvement over last year's squad and improved steadily as the season went on. Coach Doc Sanford was especially pleased with the hard Work and Willingness to win of his harriers. Central's men placed filth in the west side league meet. Leading the harriers were track stars, Bill Stephens and Hal Thom- as two of the outstanding athletes at Central. Hal graduates this summer but Bill will be back next season to once again spark the Bla- zer cross country team. Letter winners were: Hal Thomas, Bill Stephens, Nehemiah Pitts, Herman Goldberg, Douglas Talbot, Benny Sol- omon and Art Leiberman. Who keeps up our teams' spirits when things aren't going right? Who are the girls who lead the school in blue and White with screaming cheers? The Cheerleaders ot course, and We salute them for the fine job they have done again this year at all our athletic events. This year the girls were led by Margaret White who did a superb job in helping to teach the student body the many cheers and songs ot Central. Many undergraduate girls participat- ed on the cheerleaders and Will be back again next year to lead Centralites in cheering for their favorite teams. CHEERLEADERS - Row l - B. Wiler Row 2 - E. Along with exciting football must go good sportsmanship and Central can be proud to say that we had both during the tall of 1953. We were not only proud of our athletes on the gridiron, but were equally proud of the stu- dents in the stands, who at all times conducted themselves in a manner commendable to Central. seventeen
