611. Harriet Chodoroff PRESIDENT During the second year under its new char- ter, the Student Council has proved its compe- tence as Central's student government. With the aid and guidance of Mr. Ben Chinitz, spon- sor, and the Fall officers, who were Harriet Chodoroff, President, Bob Schechter, Vice President, Marion Glieberman, Secretaryg and Ronnie Horwitz, Treasurer, the council began its work by publishing the Council Bulletins which listed all school activities, and were dis- tributed to the groups each week. A committee was formed to investigate and offer suggestions on improving the lunchroorn, and suggestion boxes were placed in the study halls for all students. During the spring term, Elaine Braverman student body heard through student council presided and was assisted by Bill Stephens. Gloria Manela recorded the minutes, and Phyl- lis Zager took care of the finances. The new Central handbook, which was be- gun in the fall, was completed by the spring council and will be ready for distribution next term. At the beginning of both terms, the coun- cil sponsored the orientation assemblies to wel- come new students to Central. Student Day, when the students and teach- ers change places, was the council's last big event, thus completing a successful program for the year. The Council deserves much credit for the worlg they undertook and should be praised for tneir success. STUDENT COUNCIL - Row l - M. Gleibermern. Row 4 - S. Schwartzberg, I. Laferty. I. Greenbaum. H. Selling school and senior pins, school shirts, and ushering at graduation and Athletic events, were some of the tasks undertaken by the Girl's Athletic Association this year. Also included in the year's agenda were the Let- terWomen's Banquet and Play Day, a day devoted to better acquaint the girls of Central with the girl's athletic program. The G.A.A. has a permanent membership of twenty-four. Girls who wish to join the club send in letters stating why they desire mem- bership. The letters are judged, discussed, and voted upon by the organization, Without know- ing who its author is. The club feels this eli- minates prejudice. The club, under the sponsorship of Miss Ernestine Burton, has an executive board which selects the officers of the club. Officers during the fall term included Faith Greenbaum as President, Iean Brinze as Vice-President and Audrey Katz as Secretary.
