Mike Rosenthal. and its center. Ken XY'okila. Seymour Pomish. who was elected Rosenthal's successsor. soon proved by his expert captainship and line ball handling that his teammates had made a wise choice. The team began the season with one of the greatest upsets of the year. defeating Pershing High. 6 to 0. The game was characterized by excellent defense on Central's part. as is shown by the score as well as by the fact that no member of the Pershing team ever came within 35 yards of Cientrals goal, Outstanding this season were Bruce Hamilton who w ls commended time md time tgun for his smashing drive md long runs l'l Mcf allum for his far reaching lcicksg and Seymour Pomish. for his fine defensive play. In its other contests our Blue and White squad won three games and lost three. Although the score of CQentral's game with MacKenzie read 0 to 0, it was really a victory for our team on the basis of total yard- age gainecl. Our squad chalked up its highest tally of the season against CQhadsey's team, defeating them, as the result of a terrihc Central onslaught, by a score of I9 to 0. The season was brought to a close with a 26 to 0 defeat at the hands of Cooley. Having suffered a defeat at the hands of Northern. they practiced tricky shots and basic plays in prepara- tion for Cooleyr and defeated them 17 to 10. Led by co-captains Shirley lilage and Edith Feinberg, the girls next visited Mackenzie. where they made up for the loss suffered by our boys' team by winning 52-19. No wonder Miss Mayer. the coach of the team. was so proud of the offensive plays of Shirley Bain. Dolores Laurin and Lillian Lempio. as well as that shrewd backshot developed by Margaret Spencer. Alternating between zone and person-to-person guarding. Eleanor Pangburn and the team's co-captains held back Redfords cagers to enable Central to finish the season with a 32-9 victory, lft Rau .' For each boy wearing a coveted C sweater spent hours practicing and working for the honor. From the fellows who took a terrific beating during football scrimmage to boys practicing speed turns in the pool-the C award was the symbol of work well done. Besides being the top athletes of Central, the C Club did many useful jobs around school. Under the leadership of Mr. Harold Kammerer, sponsor, Al Tintenfish, President, and Bruce Hamilton, Vice-Presi- dent, the C Club provided ample ushers for the school's activities and plenty of odd-job men for Club LaSalle. One of their outstanding projects was the Boxing and Wrestling Show held during April, but it is safe to say that their most important function was that of bolstering school spirit and morale by attending all of Central's activities and competitions.
