This is the story of youth bursting with vigor, bubbling with enthusiasm, groping with knowledge, wrestling with problems, dreaming dreams and fashioning a future full of pro- mise, love and peace. Centralian, 1979, is not the end of our story. This is but a break with joy and pride in our accomplishment and hope and faith in the future. It is at this pause that we ex- press sincere thanks to all who have made our story worth telling, and to all who have helped to tell our story. The CENTRALIAN STAFF and SENIOR CLASS Dedication Mrs. Gloria Allen, a former teacher of English devoted her nine years of teaching to Central High School. She also devoted her time as sponsor of the girls drill team. Her time and effort she put forth eamed her the respect from teachers and students. Mis. Allen graduated from Grambling State University in Louisiana and Kansas State University at Pittsburg . To Mrs. Gloria Allen, who has shomm her Eagle spirit, we congratulate you on your new posi- tion. We feel our fellow Cent:-alites are saying ..... We Are Proud Of You. Dedication ,J iv V . ff? 3? As l observed the Honor Roll for the first grading period, I was happy to see the names of about 150 of our students on the list. ' Also published from the Guidance Center was a list of students with Perfect Attendance . l would like to take this opportunity to encourage more of our students to strive for perfect attendance in order that there can be an increas- ing munber each grading period. There has been a definite improvement in the attitudes and cooperation of the students at Central High School. For this we are grateful. Each student enrolled in our school has a certain responsibility and a certain duty to per- form. If we can be assured of this kind of cooperation from all of our students, then Central High School will con- tinue to improve . S Ye look forward to the 1979-1979 school year as being one of the better years in the history of Cenn-al High c oo . D.l.. Britton f -. , 4 j . Cgu , Principal , Central High School ' nur vo urn nr unrusv :fx XX Y, X . 11 A . -lv.. The 1978- 1979 school year has proven to be a challenging and rewarding educational experience at Central High School. It is my pleasure to be a part of this faculty and cornmunity, working to promote a sound educa- tional program. I also com-it it a privilege to be associated vvit.h this student body. I challenge the faculty and student body to be even more produc- tive, better disciplined, self-reliant and developers of positive attitudes. The future looks bright, but just saying it will not make it happen. We must all strive for excellence . Jack P . Cummins ,,ZffrLf7'L41L.4 Assistant Principal, Central High School Working at Central has been rewarding over the years. Many joyous thoughts come to mind as reflections are made of the many personalities that have made this school great. Words cannot describe the experience of watching you move from childhood to adulthood . Centralites, you are charged with ou.r future. We can be no stronger than you make us. Do not under prepare. Hard work and sacrifice are the keys to success. Remember, it is not enough to prepare as will as the next per- son. You :must be the best. I also would like to congradulate all of you graduating seniors. Hopefully we as seniors can cope with the world that we're about to go out into . 1 l'd like to give a special thanks to everyone who made this book a suc- cess . 1 David Ersery Editor ,UWM Vanessa Haskins - Co-Chief Editor, Ass. Editor, typist As assistant to the editor of the 1978 8 1979 Centralian, I felt privileged to be able to do something for my school that we all can look back on as memories worth cheerishing. With our many setbacks I can say that the 78-79 yearbook staff has done exceptionally well, and 1 can also say that we could have done better. l hope that the forth coming students of Central High School will have the opportunity to have a yearbook, and their yearbooks will grow to better as years pass. Nina Harrison -Faculty Editor -z. l ,4 Vx.: Epilogue We the graduating class of 1978-79, known as the class of smallest quantity, are leaving as the one with the largest quality. Although we have suffered through two strikes, and the separation of our class as a result of plan 6-C, we have managed to maintain our stability and character. We have played a major role in the birth of the Central Alumni Associ- ation, t.he Central Pride Association, the Excel Program in Kansas City, and have been commended as one of the best classes to come through Cen tral High School. We leave our steadfastness and dedication to the Class of 1980, and en- courage them to follow in our footsteps of ambition. We have come to the middle of our joumey and would like to thank our parenfs, teachers, and wellwishers who have helped us thus far along the way. The Senior Class and the Centralian Staff of 1979 .
