I Pr1nc1p THE SPIRIT OF 76 Throughout our country there have been preparations and executions of activities in celebration of Americans Bicentennial. We at Central are celebrating more than just the -bicentennial this year. We have the honor of observing 108 years of educational, cultural, and moral influences on the minds and lives of young people. Yes, our heritage gives us the distinction of being Kansas City's oldest school, but age alone is not our claim to excellence. Many of our alumni who are shown in annuals past have brought fame to themselves and to our school. Yet an assessment of our past only reveals that it is imperative for us to look forward to future goals of excellence. This particular year in our history, the students have shown themselves ready and Willing to accept the challenge of keeping Central a proud, productive, and dynamic influence for good. We recognize each of your contributions, commend your efforts, and envision higher attainments and achievements as we keep the Spirit of 76 .... . . Harris Protection And Improving Discipline Police Department Suzanne Settle Rebecca Gordon and Police Officer in the Ride-A-Long Program The Northeast Patrol Division of the Kansas City Police Department along with Central High School is conducting a Student and the Law class. The purpose of the class is to expose high school students to concepts of our federal laws, state statutes and city ordinances. Equally important, we are trying to develop a relationship of understanding between student and policeman. The Police Department also has a program in use known as the Ride-A-Long Program . Anyone is eligi- ble to ride in the program as long as the necessary 're- quirements are met, which consist of being 16 years of age or over. The officer and the ride-a-long goes on series of calls which are minor to the patrolman, but quite exciting to the ride-a-long. Calls such as - aggravated a sault, robbery, and many disturbance calls. During th the officer explains the operation of the dispatch r the distribution of square miles in the city, a seri electrical beeps, and the issurance of orders. The Ride-A-Long Program is highly bene and has the highest recommendations of many. rides adio, es of ficial Central Senior High School students as well as the faculty were very fortunate to have in their midst The Rev. Jesse Jackson on the day of October 14, 1975. jackson is the director of Operation Push. People United to Save Humanity. His formost interest is in helping blacks face their problems and try to change them. He also stressed the importance of blacks working together as one, instead of apart. l The assembly was called a Soul Saving Assembly by Rev. jackson. He stressed his feelings on black unity. He stated that we should pump our brains with hope for a brighter tomorrow. Where all men, black and white, will be treated equal and as one. In defense of our right to vote in elections, all should register when we reach the legal age of 18. We will never have a say so in the events that place in our cities, towns and I Rev. Jesse Jackson communities if we do not take this step toward equality. In his explanation of Civil Rights, Rev. jackson stated that there is no room for an uneducated black in the world today. In closing Rev. jackson stressed the Five E's: Ethnie - which deals with ones culture: Ethical - being guided by accepted prin- ciplesg Excellence - excelling in the field in which you desireg Eternal - which means without end. In acquiring and using each of these terms, you are SOMEBODY! We the students of Central Senior High School wish to render expressions of gratitude to the Declaratives for providing kus with such a rewarding and educational experience for we realize that without their efforts many of us would have been deprived of hearing one of the most dynamic and electrifying speakers of our time. ff 4 f W ff fx' ' jj? 1' qv? z 2 V X 1 M.
