FOREWORD White ribbons, bearing the stimulating blue letters Go Eagle Go” hang from the left shoulder of loyal Centralites. This challenge has motivated the spirit of the I960 Centralian. The eagle's strength, speed, and ability to look at the sun make it an appropriate school symbol, for Central’s far-famed tradition and our hope for its future inspire our present activities. Here you see a new order in Central; a different styled annual, many added organizations, a diverse student body, a new administration, and many new faculty members. In this new order for Central the Eagle is soaring. It is our desire that this annual will preserve for you the happiest year of your school life and that it will recall in the future for your pleasure many fond memories.

MR. C. S. HANN DEDICATION We dedicate this I960 Centralian to Mr. C. S. Harm, an outstanding educator and a true gentleman. His dignified bearing in and out of the classroom and his gracious and affable manner won for him the respect and admiration of his pupils, whom he inspired to emulate his demeanor by addressing them as mister and miss. When school opened this fall without Mr. Hann in room 311, Central deeply felt the loss of the teacher who had been an inspiration to thousands of Centralites. Mr. Hann came to Central at age twenty-three and had ever been a vital force in the academic and social life of the school: as chairman of the Science Department, as a teacher of the physical sciences, and as a sponsor of the literary societies and of the Centralian. His students soon recognized why he was considered by the Kansas City teachers to be the dean of the teachers of science in the secondary schools; his knowledge was broad and exact and his pedagogy sound. In appreciation of his career as an instructor and with best wishes for his happiness in his voluntary retirement, we dedicate this book. Tlie Centralian Staff 5
