This challenge has motivated the spirit of the I960 Centralian. The eagle's strength, speed, and ability to look at the sun make it an appropriate school symbol, for Central’s far-famed tradition and our hope for its future inspire our present activities. Here you see a new order in Central; a different styled annual, many added organizations, a diverse student body, a new administration, and many new faculty members. In this new order for Central the Eagle is soaring. It is our desire that this annual will preserve for you the happiest year of your school life and that it will recall in the future for your pleasure many fond memories. MR. C. S. HANN DEDICATION We dedicate this I960 Centralian to Mr. C. S. Harm, an outstanding educator and a true gentleman. His dignified bearing in and out of the classroom and his gracious and affable manner won for him the respect and admiration of his pupils, whom he inspired to emulate his demeanor by addressing them as mister and miss. When school opened this fall without Mr. Hann in room 311, Central deeply felt the loss of the teacher who had been an inspiration to thousands of Centralites. Mr. Hann came to Central at age twenty-three and had ever been a vital force in the academic and social life of the school: as chairman of the Science Department, as a teacher of the physical sciences, and as a sponsor of the literary societies and of the Centralian. His students soon recognized why he was considered by the Kansas City teachers to be the dean of the teachers of science in the secondary schools; his knowledge was broad and exact and his pedagogy sound. In appreciation of his career as an instructor and with best wishes for his happiness in his voluntary retirement, we dedicate this book. Tlie Centralian Staff 5 May our education be used as an instrument to help sow light where there is darkness, kindness where there is hatred, pardon where there is injury, faith where there is despair, knowledge where there is ignorance, joy where there is sadness, and to seek, not so much to be understood, as to understand. MR. JAMES F. BOYD Principal 8 MR. GIRARD T. BRYANT Vice-Principal No generation has yet faced a future so full of promise and excitement nor has any faced the difficult challenges of this memorable midtwentieth century. Man has, for the first time, turned his gaze toward infinity and contemplates, materialistically, exploring the known universe. Isn't it a wonderful thought to realize what an important part that You, the I960 graduates of Central High School, will play in this exotic drama of time, space, and motion? No one can predict who among you shall make the greatest contribution in this race into infinity. It may be the ones with the greatest intellects or it may be, in the words of Milton, Only those who stand and wait.” MR. ALLIS A. KEITH Vice-Principal In this age of progress and ever-expanding horizons, our country requires young men and women with vision and skill. It also needs people who understand and desire to help their fellow man, regardless of race, color or creed. The Central Faculty has provided a curriculum that satisfies the academic, vocational, and humanitarian needs of our society. Now it is you who will demonstrate to our peoples the achievement necessary for success in the arts, literatures, sciences, and vocations. It is you who will assume the leadership required to be outstanding members of our community and country. 9 MISS HORTENSE SCHALLER Counsellor The Class of '60 can be proud of its outstanding scholarship, activity, and service record. I count it a privilege to have been your counselor, and will be interested in your future accomplishments. May each of you believe in yourself as a person, appreciate beauty, be sensitive to the needs of others. MR WILEY C. POLESON Counsellor This has been one of the most enjoyable years of my teaching career. .The work with the students of Central has been both interesting and rewarding—interesting in the many varied opportunities presented for helping students and rewarding in the thought that I may have helped in some small way their paths to a richer and more satisfying future. Ramp Cafeteria Manager 17 IN MEMORIAM A jovial, kindly man was Mr. John E. Evans. Ever given to optimism, his manner was free and easy with his students and colleagues. Although his subject was social science and he was ever a loyal and proud advocate of the American way, his real enthusiasm was athletics, which was never long out of his conversation. For many years he was athletic manager and always the best booster in school for support of the team whatever it happened to be. Mr. Evans was at his best on the platform, where he held the student body in the hollow of his hand, so to speak; for he could sway them with a friendly smile, a twinkle in his eye, a shrug of his shoulder, and a peppy talk to go out and help the team win the honors for dear old Central. Mr. Evans had a serious side, too. He spoke effectively on a religious or moral issue and made a beautiful and impressive prayer. His interest in religion manifested itself especially in the forty-two years of continuous service which he gave to the Linwood Hi-Y. This service was honored by the Y” only recently when they awarded him a plaque in recognition of his work with the boys. Although he gave his endeavors to these activities for boys, he was impartial in his interest in his students, befriending any boy or girl in need of a friend. Will Rogers’ famous line might be so paraphrased for Mr. Evans, I never had a student whom I did not like. And his students liked him! His assignment in the school can be filled, but his place in the life of Central cannot be. As we Seniors, academically gowned and capped in Central's Blue, march down the aisles at the Municipal Auditorium to the strains of Pomp and Circumstance” and take the places reserved for us, we do so with the sadness of farewell and the satisfaction of accomplishment. Four long, and tonight short, years we have been together as a class: the Freshmen of ’57, the Sophomores of '58, the Juniors of '59, and, at long last, the Seniors of 60. We try hard to show the dignified bearing of a graduate; as phantas-magorically the memorable experiences of the last four years appear and vanish on the screens of our minds: the athletic events, the cheering, the victories; our organizations, our parties and mixers, the Proms, the vacations, the assemblies; the scholastic honors, the T. V. and Radio programs, such as Bandstand,” T-V Teen Town,” and It’s in the Bag;” Centralian Day and the weird things we wrote in each other’s annuals, and Senior Day luncheon, film, and mixer; our friendships with one another and our sponsors and teachers. Really we feel much as did KoKo’s wards; From scholastic trammels free, Each a little-bit afraid is, Wondering what the world can be! Through the music and addresses we restrain our restlessness; but with the conferring of our diplomas and the flashing of cameras our nervousness is given release and we are carried through the parting of our ways with exultation for having successfully completed the first leg” of our journey through life. Central's honor and traditions have inspired us. May our records serve as ideals to challenge the Centralites that follow after us! 21 SENIOR Most Popular Kenny Snow Sharon Pemberton Most Likely to Succeed Jon Barwise Janet Sturgess Best Musicians 22 Tom Richards Chari Winn . JUNIOR CLASS OFFICERS Overcoming the obstacles of late organization and limited group meetings the steadfast Junior Class has embarked on their final step toward their goal. Ever mindful and earnest in their attempts to retain the standards of Central High; they are conscientious in their efforts to prepare themselves to take the reins of leadership in 1961. They have taken an active part in worthy school organizations as well as brought their talents to the school through the Junior-Senior Prom and the spring play. With a continuance of the qualities now being exhibited by this group, we prophesy that the Class of 1960-61 will be long and well remembered. 44 JUNIORS 4 William Allen King Anderson Colin Atterbury Carolyn Aubrey Gilbert Ballard Sylvia Barnett Jo Ann Barton Wanda Beatty Shirley Booker Clarence Boyd Cherie Brachcar Georgia Braton Betty Brotherton Kay Brown Alice Burns Frederick Burtin Tom Calloway Donal Campbell Lois Campbell Ruby Carney Bessie Carson Judy Carter Larry Caruthers Roamey Cathan Larry Chauteau Cecil Clark Lillian Clark Ruth Clauder John Clow Barbara A. J. DELANO SCHOOL R. DeLANO tower R. J. DeLano School could very well be called an annex to Central; albeit the school building is really across Linwood Boulevard and is a particular school in itself, a school educating orthopedically handicapped children from kindergarten through high school. The reason it could be called an annex to Central is because the high school work is affiliated with Central and the seniors are awarded a diploma from Central. The arrangement was made when the R. J. DeLano School was built in 1939, between the two principals at that time, Mr. Otto F. Dubach and Mrs. Nell Dabney. The first class having been graduated in 1943, this year is the first year that there will be no graduates from DeLano. The high school section consists of only twelve pupils: five freshmen, six sophomores, and one junior. The high school faculty is composed of Mrs. Olivia E. Mathewson, who teaches English, Latin, mathematics, and social science; Mrs. Josephine Sams, science; Miss Agnes Burris, industrial arts and crafts; Mrs. Jane Estes, home-making; Mrs. Veva Koenig, music; and Miss Bess McCrudden, speech. Miss Mary Alice Gibbons is principal of R. J. DeLano. bottom Row: Patricia Scifner, Lynda Stone, Gerald Dearing, Connie Mertz, Lynn Rosenberg. FIRST SEMESTER STUDENT COUNCIL The purpose of the Central High Student Council is to develop student participation in self-government and to guide the student body. The Council is composed of a representative and an alternate from each home room, from the R.O.T.C., and the Honor Corps. The president and vice-president are elected by the student body before the end of each semester. Candidates make'their campaign speeches in a special assembly. Voting is done in the home rooms. Other officers are elected by the representatives. The Council meets the second Tuesday of every month, during second hour, and on the fourth Tuesday after school. This semester the Council bought and presented a class ring to our Foreign Exchange Student; assisted the P.T.A. in their membership drive; decorated the halls for the Christmas Season; collected money for the United Fund, in which the Central district placed first; twice attended Heart of America Bandstand; and ended the semester by successfully selling Go Eagles Go ribbons to boost school spirit. SECOND SEMESTER STUDENT COUNCIL The second semester Student Council got under way with the usual steam and vigor of a new Council. The first activity the Council participated in as a whole was the Heart of America Bandstand show with dancing and fun for all. Projects carried out by the second semester Coun- cil were: the annual clean-up week sponsored by the Junior Chamber of Commerce; an appreciation mixer for the basketball boys which was also a turnabout mixer where the girls asked the boys to dance; an Increase Your National Pride campaign; and a Safety Week in which the Women's Chamber of Commerce brought out and demonstrated the Drive-O-Rater. LOCKER PATROL This year as in the past some of Central’s students have devoted their study hall time to participate in the Locker Patrol. Their duties are to watch lockers, report persons loitering in the halls, and assist visitors in finding their destination. Door patrols have a special job of taking permits from students leaving the building for C.O.E., home lunch, and other special excuses. These students were chosen by Mr. Allis A. Keith, vice principal, assisted by Carolyn Ragsdale, vice-president of the Student Council. Each hour a student is chosen to act as captain. They are selected in May of the preceding year by popular vote in each home room to serve the school the next year. Honor Corpsmen serve thirty minutes of each day in and around the cafeteria. They supervise lines, keep traffic moving in one direction on the stairways, guard entrances and exits, and encourage students to keep their tables clean. Honor Corps in the Cafeteria CORPS The colonels for 1959-60 were Robert Hardwick and Don Evans. Captains were Kenny Snow, Jerry Vernon, King Anderson, and Elmo Reasoner. This year for the first time. Honor Corpsmen wore identification badges. The smallest staff in the 39 years of its existence as a newspaper rallied last fall to give the school the bi-weekly, 4-page paper which it had grown accustomed to expect. When school opened in September, only nine students in advanced newswriting were on hand to take up the work done in previous years by 20 to 30 students. However, with the able assistance of three cubs, Cherrye Ross, on the front page, Kenneth Cherry, on the sports page, and Tom Glow, in advertising, the job was done; LUMINARY we hope satisfactorily. The larger second semester staff resumed the birthday greeting and the three Luminary bulletin boards, though the latter have had to make do” without benefit of photography. To encourage ever higher standards and achievements on a solid foundation of friendliness and appreciation of all students for each other and between students, teachers, and other adult personnel has been the constant goal of the Luminary. CENTRALIAN STAFF The Centralian is particularly the seniors' record, and thus their memory book and photograph album—faces, deeds, interests, and events are herein recorded: So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see, So long lives this, and this gives life to thee. And so we preserve the happiness and successes of I960. The fate of the Centralian seemed uncertain in September; but finally a staff and sponsor volunteered and the school support was forthcoming. A contract was signed with the Inter-Collegiate Press and Mr. Alden F. Tilberg became our able consultant. This year's staff has done a phenomenal job in organizing a dummy, collecting the payments and fees and subscriptions, taking the pictures and filling in the art work and copy in less time than in previous years. PHILOSOPHY CLUB The Philosophy Club, sponsored by Mr. Mitchell, was one of the new’ organizations formed this year. At the initial meeting, new members were baffled by the big words used in the writings of many brilliant philosophers, but each member was eager to learn the new vocabulary. The second semester began with a successful panel discussion on rules for conduct for adults and teens. All in all, the year proved to be an interesting one and provided Central with a number of amateur philosophers. Bottom Row: L. Leggett, D. Caruthets, S. Tate. C. Ross, A. Escoe, M McGary, J. Mr. Robert Sweeney, a chess enthusiast, and Eugene Swartz, as sponsor and president, soon got the group off on a schedule of matches, based on winning points: two for a victory and one for a stalemate. They are busy now improving their skill in this game of kings, realizing the carry-over value of organization of ideas and plans necessary in chess strategy. Their joy comes too in friendships and in satisfaction of victory. Other officers of the twenty-member club are Ted Williams, vice-president and Phil Brown, secretary. FUTURE HOMEMAKERS OF AMERICA The Future Homemakers of America is the national organization for students who have studied, or are now studying homemaking in junior or senior high schools. This is the first year that Central has had an F.H.A. club. It was organized February, 1960, by the sponsor, Mrs. Elizabeth Sheffield. The aim of the club is to make better future homemakers of all girls. F. H. A. Creed We are the Future Homemakers of America We face the future with w'arm courage. And high hope. For we have the clear consciousness of seeking Old and precious values. For we are the builders of homes, Homes for America's Future. The C.O.E. program is a part of the regular high school subject offering. The school authorities cooperate with business and industry to direct the learning activities of the pupil. The C.O.E. program helps pupils to make better choices, provides a background of supervised work experience for future employment, and furnishes satisfactory financial rewards. Work here, work there Work, work, everywhere. The following occupations are typical this year: assistant to mechanic, jewelry fabrication, garment industry, service stations, banking, printing, retail store display, food service, retail store, telephone operator, electric motor manufacturing and repair, dietary kitchen aid, fountain sales, telephone sales, photography, and salesgirl. Our employers have been very considerate and cooperative, having provided the opportunities for training-on-the-job, which is one of the main objectives of this program. Y-TEENS Y-Teen membership is open to every girl at Central, and all are invited to join and share in our three-fold purpose: To grow as a person; to grow in friendship— with people of all races, religions, and nationalities; to grow in the know ledge and love of God. By virtue of her membership in Y-Teens, a girl is also a member of the YWCA and is entitled to all its privileges. At our meetings, programs are both inspirational and instructive. At Christmas we wrapped and took gifts to the children at the Niles Home, where we were entertained by their singing. We have planned swimming parties at the YWCA and a pot-luck supper. We are pen pals with a similar group from Texas. 78 Bottom Row: C. Aubrey, C. Shaw, B. Hill, A. Bums, L. Skelton, P. Williams, G. Gunnels. Row Two: F. Tolbert, J. Thompson, C. Ragsdale, S. TRI-HI-Y HI-Y This year Central's Tri-Hi-Y has achieved many goals under the excellent leadership of Mrs. Davis, sponsor, and Pat Williams, president. All the members of this organization are expected to achieve this purpose: To create, maintain and extend throughout the school and community, high standards of Christian character.' The club's other officers are. Alice Burns, vice-president; Carolyn Aubrey, recording secretary; Chequita Shaw, corresponding secretary, and Betty Hill, chaplain. Through the Central Hi-Y, with Mr. Macey as sponsor, many of our young men have been able to put their talent to good use. This year the Tri-Hi-Y and Hi-Y have sponsored a Splash party and presented Thanksgiving and Easter services in the school auditorium. With Harlan Burbridge, president, and Charles Smith, vice-president, the Y has striven to maintain their project of helping teenagers throughout the Central district and elsewhere to a better way of life. The motto of the club is Utrimque, multa dici potest. Translated this is Much can be said on both sides.” To be a Declarative, one must have earned at least fourteen scholarship points and be either a junior or senior. Each year the forth-coming seniors will pick the junior members for the next year. The sponsor of the club is Miss Christine Williams. BOOSTERS The Boosters is just what the name suggests: girls bent on boosting whatever good project needs a boost. Twenty senior girls, under the leadership of Mirriolyn Mc-Gary and inspired by Miss I la Maude Kite, have boosted the Luminary fund by $98; The Centralian sales to upwards of a thousand; the anti-litter campaign to neater floors and yard; and the Foreign Student Program to success. We have been an informal group with the sole purpose of sharing, enjoying, and experiencing science. Under the leadership of Barbara Butcher as president, with the able guidance of Mrs. Bauman, the juniors and seniors have gained new glimpses of science in a modern world. Our programs have varied from the life of a candle, to the tensions of a skyscraper, and to a concept of the atom. These lectures were given by students as well as guest speakers. Of the twenty members, many entered projects in the Science Fair and several are members of the Kansas City Junior Academy of Science. In retrospect, Central’s Engineers Club has played an important part in many lives and we are sure it will do so in the future of Central High School. Top Row: H. Wilson, R. Schwarz, J. Barwise. The Central Shutter Bugs” Club is composed of students who have a general interest in photography and would like to further increase their knowledge. Having a genuine interest in photography and the possession of a camera is all that is required for membership. The first semester found the Shutter Bugs listening to lectures, getting acquainted with press camera, and learning the techniques in picture development. The primary objective of the Shutter Bugs for second semester was preparing for the annual National Kodak Snapshot contest. Another highlight of the year was the Formal Inspection of the Navy Reserves, held at Olathe, Kansas. The officers who presided for the year were: Marvin Moore, president; Julius Jackson, vice-president; Alice Burns, secretary; Rodger Johnson, treasurer, and Betty Hill, program chairman. Under the leadership of Mrs. Leota J. Brown, our sponsor, the Shutter Bugs had a very interesting year. 88 Complicated business, photography. RED CROSS The Junior Red Cross, under the leadership of Mrs. Elizabeth Rutledge, to give meaning to our pledge for service to others, our country, our community, JMli ,.ur school, have joined the American Red Cross in their work to better human relations throughout the world and improve the health and mind of all people. This we have done by making a collection of around $100.00 for the Red Cross, sending a school chest abroad, and taking the Christmas stockings to the veterans at Wadsworth Hospital, at which time the Central Singers gave a concert for the veterans. HUMAN RELATIONS COUNCIL After some preliminary discussions and activities last year, the Human Relations Council finally moved into action with a constitution, officers, 35 enthusiastic members, a waiting list of other interested students, and three sponsors, together with the aid of Mr. Boyd, Mr. Bryant, Mr. Poleson, and Miss Schaller and the warm interest of several other faculty members. A Brotherhood assembly program, a Hello Day and mixer, co-operation with the Intergroup Youth Council, sponsored by the National Conference of Christians and Jews, in an Area Youth Conference, March 19, and scholarships for delegates to the Youth Conference on World affairs, sponsored by the American Friends Service Committee were a part of this year's activities. Spring practice finds the football team learning the fundamentals of blocking, tackling, and running basic plays. The success of the team depends on how well this strategy has been learned. So it is with the R.O.T.C. boys. They are trained to join one of the largest teams in the world, the United States Military Team! A team numbering in the hundreds of thousands. Central's part this year is 227 boys, making the largest battalion in the city. Their four companies are led by M Sgt. Pat Lowe, S.F.C. Walter Lohman, and Capt. David M. Monihan. Reserve Officer Training Corps is much more than a preparation of young men to fit into a branch of the armed services should our country be involved in martial combat. While they have lessons and actual practice in combat, they learn principles of leadership, citizenship, physical fitness, posture, courtesy, and obedience. The annual R.O.T.C. Ball adds color and romance to the program for the cadets; the competition in the spring meet affords excitement; the uniforms give the boys pride in their appearance and their affiliation. The football season was opened with a Blue and White day,” on which all loyal Centralites wore their school colors. School spirit was boosted by the pep rallies planned and presented by the Pep Club officers on game days. These got the students in the spirit to attend the games and cheer the team to victory. The girls spent many evenings after school at marching practice, so they might skillfully execute maneuvers at the football games. At half time the Pep Club, led by President Janet Sturgess, marched onto the field to form the initial of the opposing school as well as the C for the Central Eagles. The members faithfully attended not only the football games but many of the basketball games. Through their efforts and the greatly appreciated direction of the faculty sponsor, Miss Jean Pinkerton, the girls were able to set an example of true school spirit. From Top to Bottom: J. Sturgess, C. Foote, M. McGary, N. Hobart, F. Carney, Miss Pinkerton. CHEERLEADERS These are the I960 Central High School Varsity Cheerleaders! Five seniors and one junior comprise this enthusiastic squad. The girls were chosen by the student body in June of 1959 and practiced twice a week throughout the summer until each yell and chant was perfected. The cheerleaders attended the Cheerleaders Short Course at the University of Oklahoma at Norman, Oklahoma, July 15-17. They placed second in their class. Crowd psychology, cheerleading techniques, and better yells were all learned at the camp. The squad aided L. R. Herkimer, September 2, at the Southeast Day Clinic in teaching 450 other cheerleaders new yells. Miss Christine Williams sponsored the group and helped them in all activities in which they participated. One of these was the sale of chocolate bars with the group name printed on the wrapping. This undertaking proved successful and the cheerleaders were able to purchase their supplies without taxing the school budget. Carolyn Green 99 VARSITY FOOTBALL - 1959 Bottom Row: R. Smith. R Nelson. Even though the weather dealt a hard blow the Big Blue managed to record a 4-3 standing for the year. Coach Hoyt Baker's fighting squad in blue and white began the year with an upset over the Paseo Pirates, that gave the Eagles a 22-12 win. The next victims of the Eagle team were the Tigers from Lincoln, who were shut out by the defense of Central for a 13-0 victory. Friday, Oct. 9th, the Big Blue was hit hard by the Westport squad and met a 32-0 defeat for the first league loss. The Van Horn Falcons fell to the mighty Eagle attack at East Field on Oct. 15th, which resulted in a 20-6 win. The injuries were many in the next two contests and the Eagles were swept over due to a large casualty list. Northeast held the Eagles for a 22-0 loss. Then, the Knights from Southeast pushed by the Central line for a 41-0 final score in the hardest fought game of the year. The mighty Central team ended the season with a 33-0 triumph at the expense of the Manual Redbirds. It w'as a good year and one which all Centralites should long remember. This team of 1959, as have the teams before, fought hard for the glory of Central. Phil Notz and Ronnie Smith Student Manager! Touchdown II! 101 Standing: R. Wynn, J Hamilton, W. Hawthorne, K. The Interscholastic League opened with Central’s triumph over Westport, with a 49-43 victory. Next the Central team moved to Van Horn for a 63-28 win on the Falcon's home court. Southwest then came to the front by defeating the Eagles 42-39 and knocking the Big Blue from first place. Central struck back against the East Bears and came out on top by a score of 44-31. The second loss of the season came when the Southeast Knights drove the Eagles back for a 42-48 final score. Coming through with a 49-43 win the boys from Central beat the Paseo Pirates on February 5, to put Central in a six-way tie for second. Northeast then downed the Eagles 61-52 on the Van Horn court. In the last round of play Central came from behind to beat the Manual Redbirds 52-47 only to have Lincoln take the last game by an amazing score of 58-57. So the Central Eagles ended the 1959-60 season in a four-way tie for third. We will remember the many thrills of this basketball season and look ahead to the excitement of next season's competition. May the true sportsmanship that Centralites have displayed live forever in our memory. Traffic jam! Four hands are better than one Coach Gwynne Coomes B-TEAM. Standing: H. Turner, R. Frazier, R. Every minute I enjoyed beautiful Switzerland — the towering, snowcapped Alps; the lush, rolling Juras; the dancing mountain flowers, the placid, mirroring lakes and the palms that encircle some of them; the tiny, quaint villages; and the bustling cities. But most of all 1 was charmed by her people— they are deep thinkers; but, nonetheless, full of warmth and cheer. The Swiss are very practical; their lives reflect the contentment of their heritage of centuries as free people. I was delighted to become a member of a Swiss family and to share our ways of life with one another. Soon I hope more young Americans will learn another language so that they can help fulfill the AFS motto: Walk together, talk together, O ye peoples of the earth—then, and only then, shall you have peace. 108 SERVICE PROGRAM KAZU KOBAYASKI This year was simply one of the most pleasant and useful days in my life, and I shall never forget what I did here with you. My new experiences are nearly beyond description, but one thing I want to say is that I've found out how wonderful a thing it is to participate in increasing friendship and understanding between you and me through talking together, studying together, and playing together. You” are not only yourself but your country and your nation. I am my country and the people of my country as well as myself. You and I” is the whole world. How proud I am of it! Living in a foreign country is such a worthy thing to do. So I hope you will visit my country someday. I’ll be happiest to meet you again that I love from the bottom of my bosom. 109 SPEC1AI JANET STURGESS National Council of Teachers of English Scholarship award, (one of the eleven possible in the state). Clayton McCarty, a suspense filled drama in three acts, was presented by the Drama Class under the superb directorship of Mr. Edwin V. Nance. The intense plot centered about attempted espionage by a set of practiced and clever crooks. Jerry Martin, a young scientist in charge of a portion of atomic research, is the object of their criminal intentions. Quite by accident, a party of young girls from a drama camp with their instructor have been stranded on Fog Island, and consequently, this fact is the downfall of the desperate criminals. The suspenseful drama is relieved frequently by snatches of comedy. This year’s student director was Kathryn Brooks, with Robery Tipton as her assistant, and under their supervision the production of the play was handled excellently by the members of the class. D.
