Retirements MR. O. F. DIERSON He was a scholar, learned, wise, and true. A Christian both in deed and thought; He loved himself the Golden Rule he taught. Chaucer Dignity is the word most Centralifes feel best characterizes Mr. Dierson. His quiet demeonor, his careful attire, ond his pleasant countenance set him opart in any group of teachers. His classroom manner inspired attention and odult behavior from his pupils. As one of his pupils wrote, Always staunch and prepared for anything, he would laugh with the class at a joke on himself as readily as if it were on another. With kind eyes he would begin his class, made colorful with his vast knowledge or enriched with selections from Nelson's History. His students were always sure that his personal concern and help were sincere and ready when they were needed. He never intentionally embarrassed a student. Both boy and girl clubs have enjoyed his sponsorship, which was active and loyal The Jeffersons will long remember him as a co-founder who, with Miss Kite, led the boys to the cup their first year. His retirement, well-earned, will give him more time for enjoyment of his garden and grandchild; but unless he moves away from the district, he will probably be an every-now-and-then visitor to Central. MR. G. L. DOUTHITT Of high ideals and virtue was his speech; And gladly would he learn and gladly teach. Chaucer I feel Central has lost a great teacher, was the remark of some and sanctioned by the less vocal of his students when Mr. Douthitt donned his coat and hat and closed his classroom door for the last time Lawyer, psychologist, ond teacher extraordinary; his classroom manner inspired attention, respect, and affection from his pupils. His learning was balanced by his gentleness, his seriousness by his drollery; and his reserve by his genuine friendliness He loved a good argument, interspersed with lectures with sound advice, and held his classes spellbound in his narration of some of his many experi-ences. Meticulously neat, traveled, and qifted musically—he spends hours at his Hammond organ—Mr. Douthitt was an excellent representative of the profession he hod chosen to dignify and so inspired many of his students to choose an educational career. Although he loved his profession he took voluntary retirement to satisfy his love of travel and the leisure he had long coveted. MISS NEVA E. WING The reason firm, the temperate will, Endurance, foresight, strength, and skill; A perfect woman, nobly planned, To warn, to comfort, and command. Wordsworth Miss Wing's gracious hospitality has inspired and delighted her many pupils and her colleagues. A connoisseur of household arts and family relations, a warm, expansive nature; a sense of humor and fair play modestly characterizes Miss Wing Always thoughtful for the comfort of others, she set an example of consideration to her pupils by permitting them to prepare and carry an appetizing tray to a frail or sorrowing teacher; and often spent money for clothing or needed supplies for an indigent pupil. Happy indeed were her classes when holiday luncheons were the lessons of the week. Taste buds were educated, culinary skills developed, and artistry perfected through skills developed in 406, as many a bride can testify. Inspiring her girls to success in competition was Miss Wing's forte. Two silver trays, which enhance any tea given at the school, were won by her classes for the best set table in Hall's table setting contest. Her loyalty to Central, her strength in adversity, and her Christian faith will keep her remembrance vivid while she is enjoying her retirement in her comfortable homes here and in Michigan.
