The Central Thespian Club, formerly Drama Club, was established in 1951. lt is now sponsored by Mr. Nance who meets with the group twice a month to plan social events and programs of dancing, music or dramatic interpretation. One of the elubls social events was the Mistletoe Mixer, a holiday dance held on New Years Eye at the Linwood YMCA. Re- cruited club members presented a delightful intermission of individual acts. Future plans include support of the spring play Dino, centered about the problems facing a boy released from a reform school and how he is helped to overcome them. Sec- ond term officers: President, Bonnie Vllatkinsg Vice-President, Barbara Manning, Secretary-Treasurer, ludy Hodson, Sergeant- at-Arms, Ethel Davis. panish Club Los Conquistadores, with the largest membership in several years, set out this year to haye fun putting their knowledge of Spanish to a practical use, and to learn more about the customs of Spanish-speaking people. This was begun at a dinner at Los Corrales restaurant Oc- tober 7, and by playing Spanish games throughout the year. All members were very glad to get the new Spanish Club pins which came during the first semester. Christmas was celebrated by having two Christmas plays, by breaking the pinata, and by singing O Little Town of Bethlehem and HO Come All Ye Faithful in Spanish. A Christmas story was also read in Spanish, then translated to English for the benefit of the newer members, During the second semester, the club helped to promote the foreign exchange program by selling shares of stock. This organization stresses German literature, music, and customs. The meetings are held the first and third Thursdays of the month after school in 204. Miss Agnes Engel is the sponsor. Her numerous experiences from her trips to Germany lend an interesting and authentic tone to the meet! ings. One of the main events of the year was a lecture by Tom Scliwintlt, which he accompanied with slides about his stay in Germany. This program was continued for two meetings and proved to be of great interest for all. The German Club Christ- mas party and dinner, which were very successful, were the highlights of the year. The German Club does not boast a verv large ineinbership. but they do have a lot of genuine fun! UV411 rench Club The French Club members are easily recognized by their bright eolorecl bcrets. The berets are red, white and blue, sym- bolizing the colors of the French flag. French Club is made up of French students who are inter- ested in gaining an understanding of France-its customs, people, language, and ideals. During this year the meetings have included fashion re- views from Paris magazines, reports on some of Frances artists, and records on speaking the language. The meetings were closed with the singing of the French national anthem, La lllarseillaisef' One of thc biggest events during the school year was the Christmas party with French games and Christmas carols. .The refreshments included fresh cider and French pastries.
