Mitt 'IO N Miss Mabel Beettle, R.N. Mabel Beattie, PLN., retired june 5, 1953, after thirty-two years' devoted service in Central's Health Center. She was the school's first registered nurse, coming to Central in November, 1921, to replace the matron who had previously been in charge. Sympathetic and solicitous for teachers and students alike, Miss Beattie always showed genuine concern for real difficulties but was Stern with malingerers who sought to use the Health Center as an escape from tests and assignments for which they were not prepared. A true nurse, Miss Beattie could never let human beings suffer without trying to help and spent many summers during the wartime shortage of nurses serving in the hospitals. Many friends remember her with gratitude, too, for the hours outside school that she spent caring for them or the members of their family in time of sickness. To students, members of the faculty and mothers who assisted her in the Health Center, Miss Beattie will be an unforgettable character.

These are inspiring days in which we live. VVe are challenged at every turn to meet the new problems of preparing for a more efficient life. VVe must bring new zeal and new vision to our work that we may grow with the times. VVhile Central excels in preparing boys and girls for college entrance, it has become increasingly important to prepare others to go immediately into the fields of industry and business. VVe know that our school does a fine job of general education that will help one no matter what his vocational choice. Vile are proud of Central and we believe in it. VVe know that here young men and young women are growing to fine manhood and womanhood. Let us re-dedicate ourselves to preparing for the tasks ahead, Loyally yours, ANCUS F. Bmtnv, l'ice-Principal.
