rf! .. y W Mr. Clement, who has been Central's principal for the past four years, has always been one of Central's most loyal supporters. Not only has he worked consistently for the good of Central, but hc has been an eager spectator at Central events, for he has attended all football and basketball games and track meets. If everyone at Cen- tral had as much enthusiasm as this one person, the school would be in an enviable position regarding the school spirit. Cur many thanks go to Mr. Clement for what he has done for Central and for what he is doing. fi. '! V ,rv 31-Q ,tri A :V ,f:.:i:s , a ' Mr. VV. W. Clement Mr. Paul M. Marshall, Vice-Principal, who succeeds Mr. William Englund here at Central, has been associated with the Kansas City C schools for 12 years, during which time he has been principal of Horace Mann and Henry C. Kumpf Elementary Schools. Before his . coming to Kansas City, he was principal of a junior high school in Springfield, Mo. I was born in La Monte, Mo., and finished high school there. Ns You can imagine how different my high school was from Central, he smiled, when I tell you there were only 50 pupils in the whole school. From high school, Mr. Marshall went to the Central Missouri State College at Warrensbtirg and later earned a master's degree at Columbia University, New York. He has also done graduate work at the state universities of Missouri, Minnesota and Colorado. Mr. Marshallls warm smile and friendly disposition has made the faculty and students alike his friends. tllr. Paul ill. illtirslnill Page 6

Pacull gg, Class of '49, your record has been a gratifying one. Dick llllllll carried on the Central tradition of winning the presidency of the all-city student council. Shirley Liesc shattered precedent by winning the presidency of the local student council, becoming perhaps the first girl to be so honored. Appreciation of student responsibility for the general welfare of the school continues to grow. VVith the co-operation of the Faculty and of the Parent-Teacher Association, a campaign to secure uniforms for the Band has been prosecuted to what now seems to be a certain successful conclusion. A united appeal to Central's alumni brou ht a J 8 fine response, not only in cash contributions, but in an awakened interest in Dear Old Central in the hearts of all ex-students. The organization of an active alumni association may well l resu t. If this is consummated, you will have made an epochal contribution to the future of the school. A significant innovation of the year was College Day, when scores of seniors and under- classmen, many accompanied by their parents, were seen in earnest conference 'th W1 repre- sentatives of some thirty-five colleges and universities, making plans for future study. One outcome of College Day has been the securing of a number of valuable scholarships. Another has been a more careful planning of their courses by students of all classes. I am happy to have the privilege of extending this word of appreciation and congratula- tion to Central's Forty-Niners, who have blazed new trails to the Land of Opportunity. May you find yourselves adequately equipped with sturdy bodies, sound hearts, and the spirit to dare the unknown that characterized the Forty-Niners of a century ago. W. W. CLEMENT.
