CIIMNIE UHAMIIS On November 18, Central students learned, in an impressive memorial service, of the death of Miss Beaumont during the summer vacation on Sun- day, August 10. Miss Beaumont had suffered from a heart difficulty for many years and had been compelled to take a leave of absence on several occasions. During her extended period of illness, she was constantly making plans to return to her classes in short- hand and typing. To continue her work at Central was her most cherished wish. Miss Beaumont was one of a family of old settlers in St. Ioseph, Missouri, where her family had been engaged actively in the business and political life of the town. She came to Kansas City twenty-three years ago to accept a position in Central High School. For several years before her illness, she was head of the Shorthand and Typing Department. During several of her summer vacations, Miss Beaumont enjoyed attending the Uni- versity of California at Los Angeles and the University of Wisconsin. She had traveled in Europe, in the eastern and southern parts of the United States, and was looking forward to another trip to the Pacific Coast. On her travels she was interested primarily in the life of the people, their habits and customs. Although Miss Beaumont was known to only a few students of the 1942 senior class, she will be remembered by the many former students who had loved and admired her and will long be missed by members of the faculty.
