For fifteen years Miss Hammond had watched over Central students with hearing and speaking difficulties. She was their teacher and friend, not only helping them in time of need at school and at home, but keeping in touch with many S of them for years after graduation. Her broad interests, genuine humanity, and genial temper made her also a treas- ured friend of the faculty members. Miss Hammond was born in Olathe, Kansas, where her father was super- intendent of a school for the deaf. She taught in the same school until 1921 when she began her work of helping the hard-of-hearing at Madison School. She then came to Central and Central Iunior, dividing her time each day be- tween the two schools where she helped her special students to adjust to the difficulties of high school classes and activities. The influence of her good life lives on after her.
