New Equipment Aids Radio and T. V. Class Radio and T.V. was a closed circuit production this past year as a result of new equipment purchased by the Board of Education. Five classes a semester were held with 125 students of which 45 have re- ceived their third class license for broadcasting. Students broadcasted three hours a day in the students com- mons and they wrote, produced and directed their own programs. The stu- dents also produced a school news show that was aired on WBCM every Saturday, which informed radio listen- ers of the many activities that went on at Central during the past school year. New equipment was installed by Cliff Saladien Delta Channel 19 technition. Central hopes to have in the near fu- ture a ten watt educational F.M. station and they hope to receive many more new facilities during the renovation of Central. N . Using the photograph enlarger in his Photojour- nalism class is Senior, Paul Shyposki. mmunication Introduction to journalism is a sur- vey of the field of journalism with emphasis on writing techniques. The course is designed to promote proper news reading habits, teach techniques in journalistic writing, study the pur- pose and preparation of advertising, the mechanics of layout and typogra- phy and teach the history of the print- ing press. Photojournalism gives an introduc- tion to the basic principles of photog- raphy as a medium of journalistic communication. Students will be taught the principles and the use of various kinds of photographic equip- ment, darkroom techniques, picture composition, picture selection and graphic ommunication. Teaching Introduction To journalism for the first time this year is Mrs. Lois Honsowetz. Mr. Donald Baker, photojournalism teacher, taught photojournalism for the first time this year. Students taking Introduction To journalism or Photojournalism usually go on to the Bi-Weekly newspaper staff or elect to work on the staff or gain in- sights to journalistic careers. 26! academics
